Featured My new Daniel Carr 2014 Panama Canal Centennial Medals: Shield your eyes!

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by TopcatCoin, Jun 9, 2014.

  1. It has been a little bit slow on CT lately so thought I might spice things up a bit and share pics of my two new medals. These are examples of Daniel Carr's new 2014 Panama Canal Centennial Medals, smooth-edge, copper, satin AND COLOR-TONED! They are absolutely stunning! :woot: He also has other non-toned versions, in copper, silver and bronze, as well. As usual, great design and artistry as you would expect from DC. These color-toned versions have a limited mintage of only 66, but no two are alike as you can see from my pics. So, in my view, each is a one-of-a-kind work of art. There has been considerable debate here on CT about AT versus NT, but there should be no argument here as these are advertised as intentionally color-toned. This is my first DC purchase, and it was an impulse buy, but I am very happy with them...no regrets. I am going to post the full image for best effect, so get your sunglasses out. :) Enjoy, TC

I ordered a few of the 2014 Panama Canal medals from DC as well. My favorite is the silver version, but I like my color toned copper as well... I've seen a few of them now and all are certainly unique. Here's mine:

Mine is mild by comparison, but I have another coming any day. Winged Liberty has a couple.....one really radio active.

I'm glad he toned them. They turned out really pretty.

  15. I have read on other coin fora/forums that DC considers the color toning he employs to be part of the manufacturing process, just as satin finished and vapor blasted and enhanced, etc. are considered as part of the manufacturing process by the US Mint.

I only knew of Daniel Carr because of his 1964 D Peace dollar and wasn't interested in this type of fantasy piece. I did check out the website for Moonlight Mint and I must admit, he is very talented. I like his hard times tokens and the press medal the best because they're original.

  17. I have to admit that I am a bit jealous (but also impressed) of the excellent coin photography displayed in this thread, so have tried a different camera and some natural lighting on mine. Trust me, these are spectacular in hand. TC IMG_0490.JPG IMG_0489.JPG IMG_0491.JPG IMG_0492.JPG

  19. He does make some cool/interesting stuff. Maybe he should design a medal for Detroit based on that classic T-Shirt design. :D TC
