?

Which 1 oz Gold Coin would you buy on an annual basis?

  1. Gold Maple Leaf

    40.0%
  2. Australian Gold Kangaroo

    60.0%

I am looking at buying at least one 1 oz Gold coin that is .9999
I am down to the Maple and the Kangaroo. In terms of the Maple, I like that its a North American offering so plenty of buyers/sellers and recogition. In terms of the Kangaroo I like that it changes each year for some variety. I don't even want to talk about a Chinese offering (maybe I will pick up one of their well crafted Morgan Silver Dollars ) In terms of their Silver offerings, I think the Australilan product is FAR superior in design and quality.

For those that have purchased both which would you get if you were limited to 1 of the 2?

I like the kangaroo due to the reasons you cite. However, if this is bought with an eye towards selling, you are right the maple leaf is more widely known here.

So, to buy for myself I like the 'roo, if to hold for a few years and sell you might do better in the US with the maple leaf.

Sorry, how is that for a non answer?

I guess I would go for the Kangaroo. I like the different look. but any .9999 gold is a good buy.

Maple all the way. A long, consistent series (like are ASE) from our good neighbors to the north. The Roo isn't exactly concerned much about a mutual border. Hmmph

I just find kangaroos to be more interesting than leaves. But I like a variety; both Canada and Australia produce quite a variety of bullion offerings besides their standard leaves/kangaroos respectively. (My second favorite coin after my gold sovereign is a frilled-lizard gold coin from Australia.)

I will preface this by saying I own neither of these(and unfortunately will probably never own one) but I do like the design of the kangaroo more than the maple leaf. My $0.02. :)

I voted Roo. I think the maple leaf is kinda blah, but maybe that's just because the design has been around for so long and I am used to seeing it. I don't think you would have any problems re-selling the roo in the future, its a well-enough documented coin. I dont have any idea how often they are faked though...

Winnie the Pooh would vote Roo, so should you. Oh, bother.

I like the maples but maybe that's because I've actually been to Canada and enjoyed their bilingual signs. And their donuts. It all comes down to donuts. Always buy gold from the country that makes the best donuts.

My ultimate favorite design of all remains the Australian platinum platypus. Perhaps I'm just a sucker for alliteration... or platypus... someday I'll hoard me up one of those.
