Hello, Maybe someone can help. In 1955 Publix Supermarts gave out a Silver Medalion/Token for its Anniversay. I have seen 1 picture of it, and have been told about them. But never saw 1 in hand. Hopefully someone might have seen 1 or where I might locate 1. I have a friend retiring for Publix,s I would like to give 1 to. BTW Publix Supermarket was started years ago in Lackland Florida and now is in many states. Its a grocery Store. Thanks Jim

How silver protects and preserves your purchasing power: in 1955, a (silver) dollar probably bought about 4 pounds of hamburger. In 2014, it buys 5 pounds, give or take.

Those were always "premium" hamburgers, but the price ratio is probably the same.

Call me when you find a butcher who will allow you to give them a silver dollar in return for 20 dollars worth of product.

You don't quite grasp the idea. You sell the coin, then use the money to buy hamburger. Today, Apmex is paying over $21 for cruddy 1921 silver dollars:

    1921-P, D, or S Morgan Dollar (VG - XF)
These 90% Silver coins are of mixed mint marks of P, D or S. Orders in multiples of 20 coins are packaged in square plastic tubes.Learn about Silver value and see the latest Silver price online at APMEX.com. Have questions about how to buy .... Read More

    APMEX Buy Price: $21.70

At that price, your LCS should be willing to pay $20. THEN you buy hamburger. If there's any change due, make sure it's not clads.

I understand what you mean. However my point was that you can't walk into Walmart and hand them a silver dollar and expect 20 dollars worth of stuff. However I do wish it was that convenient.

Also, I won't do business with Apmex, I tried to buy some silver off them from eBay and mistakenly entered the wrong debit card number (it would of overdrawn that account), I asked to have the transaction cancelled and they did and blocked me from buying anything else. Google it, I'm not alone on that one.

They also sell on eBay...but cheaper, how they can do that with eBay's fees bewilders me.

We haven't reached the direct-barter stage yet. Maybe 5 years down the road, who knows? We have quite a few small bodegas in Columbus, I'm not so sure they wouldn't trade, no questions asked.

Heck, like I eluded to earlier, Publix meats are prime. I'm having withdrawals having had to return to NY............
