I scored a little bit of silver for less than melt on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360884405401 Melt on the silver, plus the face value of the clad proofs, comes to $10.07. I got it for $9.45 shipped. Yeah, it's a very small score, but I'll take it.
There are markets for both. I bought this for the silver content, but if I wanted to, I could easily flip the half in a 2x2 on ebay for $12-15. Of course 1964 silver proof Kennedy halves typically fetch a little more, but there are plenty of completed listings where they sold for around $10. Either way, all the coins will go into 2x2's. I will keep the silver, and the clad proofs will be sold along with others when I accumulate enough to make it worth my while to sell them in bulk. That's what I do with silver proof sets.
blaubart, I think you did great so don't worry. I just am biased towards older crusty circulated silver However proofs are just as good Keep it up!!!
