If this is in the wrong part of cointalk I am very sorry. Anyways, I looked around and I noticed all gold and silver bars have stamps on them like "1 G GRAM 999.9 24K GOLD BULLION". I was just wondering where I could get one of those stamps so I can melt down my scrap silver/gold and make them into bars then put those stamps on them.

try amazon. You could make a stamp with a message on it but that won't be to cheap. If you want, you could just buy a 0-9 A-Z metal stamp set for like $15 but you would have to do each letter one at a time but personally I like the hand poured individually stamped letter look better.

What I would ask is have you assayed this pm? Why are you trying to replicate a stamp of certification saying something that may be untrue?

medoraman I didn't know it was against the law to put a personalized stamp on gold... I don't want to resell the bars I want to keep them and maybe put my name or something that describes me or make it a gift for someone with their name on it. I understand that putting 999.9 24K gold on a bar would probably be a lie but I would still want it on my bar(s).

Just seems to me you would be creating an unfortunate circumstance where someone might rely on this stated test. Actually, I would imagine its illegal to ever sell such uncertified pieces labeled like that. I would have no issue at all personalizing something, I just believe putting a stamp of purity on something you have no idea of its purity is simply bound to cause problems in the future even if unintended.

I guess that's true, so if I get it stamped I'll just hide it from the public and look at it during spare time and just wish the stamp was not a lie.

Im not going to get into laws here, but just stamp your bars with the actual metal purity and avoid any possible problems

Whatever you do is up to you and I can see where you are coming from. As long as you don't intend or ever try to pass it off for something it is not, then by all means enjoy

Okay thanks, I'll just sell the scrap gold and go to a coin dealer or somewhere that is trusted for selling gold and buy the bars there. I'll spend more money trying to buy all the stuff needed to melt, mold, and stamp the bars than just buying some from a coin dealer. And that way I wont need to ever worry about getting a fine or going to jail for putting a fake purity on the bars.

You could get the bars assayed if you wish to cast the bars yourself sir. I never said that at all, just saying stamping a purity on a bar if you are unsure is bound to cause someone heartache someday. Anything else you wish to stamp on them knock yourself out.

Putting the wrong purity on the bar would be akin to putting a wrong grade on a coin you own. In your case, not due to ignorance but wilfull intent.
Even if you never sell it, when you die someone else will obtain it. Unless you throw it off a remote mountain top somewhere, it will still be around for many generations after.

  14. I am not sure of laws here, but my guess is that you can stamp whatever you want on it if you own it. The issue will come when you or your heirs attempt to place a value on it for insurance purposes or sell it. This is why I only buy highly recognizable bullion from reputable dealers. I want to know exactly what I am buying.

Oh I see what all you are trying to say. I guess I'll just buy gold bars from a dealer. Thanks!

If someone actually believes what was individually hand stamped on a no-name self poured bar, then they deserve what's coming. Having said that... if you stamp it on the bar... as I said, nobody will believe it, and it will just look silly... to me anyway.
I would just stamp AU 10oz, or something like that.
