I have not seen one in hand yet, but the concept behind them is very interesting. With all of the fake eagles, maple leafs, etc why not at least try to fight back.
I never thought they were very attractive before 2014. But the new security features have sold me; I think these will be one of the easiest coins to sell in the future. I plan on picking up a few.
I guess I'll have to take the plunge and pick up one to look at, maybe its time to sell the older ones and get the newer one.
I have some of them. For me, the pluses are: they have an interesting design and are less likely to show milk spots. The biggest minus is: they are not as "classy" looking as the previous coins; their finish reminds me of the silver foil wrapped around Hershey's kisses. I would say if you are interested in the bullion factor primarily, these are just fine. If, however, you want something more pleasing to the eye, just pay up a little and get some ASEs , libertads, pandas, koalas, kookaburras, elephants, etc., etc. Personally, I will be dumping mine at the next coin show I attend.
A real beauty. The starburst design is genius. Why? Becasue it can be altered to create so many different designs for upcoming years, making it very unique. That is why the kooks are so popular, with design changes each year. As far as ASE's, there is nothing unique about them, other than a date change. They could at least put the date in a different location to start with, then make some other changes. But, look how many years it took for a new design for the penny, nickel, and quarter. I like coins that are different and unique. If not, you might as well just buy blank silver rounds!
