I just can't get myself to buy into the hype of the P coins. I love the coins but not the premium. I bought a roll of the Mt Rushmore 5oz bullion version. $2.60 over spot. Cheaper than ASEs. Going forward, I might buy every new release. Can't afford to buy the rest of the 2013 coins this year. Hopefully early next year. Note that each roll is 50 oz of silver. That can really add up.
I'm trying to collect the 'P' versions in MS 70 and just purchased my first one, the Mount Rushmore for $210. There aren't a lot on eBay for sale - going to be hard to work on my collection!
i think they are some of the ugliest coins on the market, they lack of detail and quality designs on such a big coin shows why the u.s mint lags behind others.
I'm kind of up and down with these pucks. I bought the the 1rst five when this series came out in 2010. After that, i kind of got cold on them, lost interest. But then i bought Fort McHenry this year with the american flag and explosion over it, and Mount Rushmore on a whim. I kind of have that same feeling with the Smokey Mountains and Everglades this year, so yeah i guess i'm back into them.
I like the 90% ATB coins in the silver proof sets more than the 5 ounce pucks. There's a bunch of mints that make nice puck size coins up to a kilo in size such as Perth, Casa de Moneda, New Zealand and China's mints.
Strange statement. There are some pretty convincing Morgans out there. Doesn't mean people should stay away from silver! Anyhoo, I'm pretty selective on the ATB designs, and I'm only into the p version. Like Bill, I'm pretty happy with the upcoming Smoky and Everglades. The rest--meh.
Ok. I got a question for y'all....and maybe I am just not seeing it because I haven't paid much attention to the 5oz ATBs. But the dealers buy bullion ATBs from the mint, the people that order from the mint get the "uncirculated" version as they say at the website. Is there a difference in the finish between the bullion and mint public version that gets some graded MS and others SP?
So which gets the better finish? I would assume the mint public version and not the bullion but I really have no idea. Shows how much I paid attention to these coins in the past. Thanks for the answer salty.
I like the collector's pucks, which have a satin like finish. The bullion version is more like a typical business strike finish.
Here is a link to more info than you asked for, but it will explain minting differences and show pics. TC http://www.coinnews.net/2013/09/27/how-the-philadelphia-mint-makes-atb-5-oz-silver-coins/
