I purchased a 2004 silver maple leaf from my LCS a couple months ago. It feels odd because the edge feels slightly thicker than my other maple leafs (2008 and later). Also the edge feels relatively sharp. It almost concerns me. I know 2004 was the first of the new face but was it minted with a slightly different lip or edge? The 2004 is on the left of the first two photos and the bottom in the third photo.
Do a weight and size check with a set of calipers. Then compare the veins on the leaf with the veins on the ones you know are good. If you don't have scales or calipers start with the comparing the veins. There is a side by side comparison with a counterfeit somewhere on the net, you just have to look for it, I couldn't find it but I have seen it several times. The lower veins coming off the main stem, are different.
