And I"m REALLY excited about it ! The LCS has a range of coins, so I got a 93,94, 04, and 5 11's. Starting the silver collection whoot! - Jeff
Been watching it for a week, then it went down below 22 and I was like...yup! Today is the day. Cost me $25.71 per coin and silver price is around 21.93 when I purchased. Is that a pretty standard spot price (hope I used that term right)? Can you find it for better than $3 and change per coin or is that pretty normal?
Maybe he was in the 2013 eagles at a higher cost. Personally, I wouldn't pay a premium for newer eagles. The older ones have a lower mintage and will be more collectable in the future.
Online will be less expensive. Spot price is the paper silver price (what silver trades @ on the comex). So you paid spot + $3.78. That is fair for a lcs.
I was actually happy that he handed me the older ones, he just kind of had them in a stack which I sort of didn't like. But they are all in one of those plastic tubes now so nice and protected. Have a good source to buy them online? After shipping does it all kind of even out?
If you are buying 1-10 eagles at a time it isn't worth buying online. Also, I know it is difficult to wait to receive a purchase in the mail. It sounds like your coin shop is fair so there is no reason to change.
Good word, thanks for the advice. Yeah I"m doing it a bit at a time so it just adds up =- ) Watching the markets to see when is a good time to buy. Man I wish I could do gold too but $$$$. In other news, turns out my 66 Kennedy 1/2 wasn't a no FG...dissapointing, but I will take the 40% for sure =- )
What do you mean? Are you talking about the ATB 5 ounce pucks? American silver eagles only come in 1 ounce coins from the mint.
No I wasn't talking about the ASE I was talking about the ATB, just been chatting about it a bit. I"ve been buying ASE's this week and it has been super exciting. Silver is low and it's fun to know that I"m starting my collection at a good price =- )
Yeah, I buy the ATB Collector versions from the mint for like $150 each. They are very cool in my opinion. You can get then cheaper in the bullion version but the quality is much less. Be careful with that gold bug it can turn into a silver bug very quickly
I couldn't afford to do gold...so it's been silver for me...and CRH I"ve enjoyed it so far. Would love to start getting into some other coins...but I won't do it until I understand it.
If you are in this for the long term I would buy the cheapest silver you can find and buy as much as you can afford as often as you can afford it. I use to only buy SAE but soon realized I passed up other deals sometimes slightly under spot because I wanted SAE's. I now am under the belief that you are better off stacking the cheapest possible .999 and 90% US coinage.
The price is awesome right now, I"m buying a 1-2 coins per paycheck. I was about to start a thread in regards to other types of 1oz coins. Are they worth it, what is there to know (like the pandas, the canadians etc etc). It kind of overwhelms me at times so I"m trying to start slow. I CRH for silver and then have been turning that into ASE since I know those hold their value pretty good. Definitely in this for the long term. I guess what would be really cool is if I could eventually have enough silver that it could fund some gold and then I could have both. - Jeff
Yeah, just buy an empty Monster box of ML for storage and buy some airtites as you go. When you get a coin put it in an airtite and then put it in the box for storage. Before you know it you'll have 100's of ounces of randoms, nice randoms. Now the eagles I would store in SAE tubes if you plan on getting quite a few and storing them for a while. I use this method and buy 2 or 3 cool silver pieces at a time, kooks, pandas, libertads. Have a blast collecting. If you want to see what I mean ill get a picture, no worries if you don't give a shite lol.
