I like your strategy of getting the coins representing the places you have visited. I do that as well as getting the designs I like. I did not get the Hawaii coin as I did not like the design. So, I missed out on some value, but I am very okay with the situation anyway as I am much more interested in the visual appeal of the coins to me. Keep in mind you can get the mint versions now for only $25.00 more than the bullion versions right now as the Mint is offering free shipping. That's quite a small price differential compared to the past. My favorites for this year are White Mountain and Great Basin. I am not into military parks, so Ohio and Maryland are out for me. Mount Rushmore seems odd to me as about 50% of the coin is Thomas Jefferson's nose due to the perspective of the design. Mount Rushmore could well be the darling of 2013 for 1 reason or another. Who knows? I just know I won't be an owner of it. Have fun collecting them!
I'd like to see Canada mint a real hockey puck sized coin commemorating the greatest sport in the world. These things from the USA are not pucks, I have real hockey pucks all over my desk and believe me they are not pucks.
Just out of curiousity, with the bullion version of the Great Basin going for $130.00 shipped and the Mint version going for $155.00 shipped, which would you purchase, taking all things into consideration?
That's a toughy, but you almost have to go with the mint version with the premium compressed. I will for Mt. Rushmore. peace, rono
I ordered mine the other day to continue my set. The lower price coupled with free shipping is a nice summer surprise.
I just got mine Much better quality than the Ohio version I got. The Ohio was probably someone's reject. I guess the key is to order early.
What do you mean "that is where the money is" The mint one is about $30 more than bullion. Are the bullion ones not increasing in value as much?
Another strike for the mint’s customer service. Received my Great Basin puck today and the coin may be an SP70, but the capsule has a huge scratch. Called the mint and was told I’d have to return the coin if I wanted a replacement capsule. Sheeeeeesh! No way I’m sending a perfect/near perfect coin back – guess I’ll have to look for a no problem capsule in the after market.
I ordered three of the bullion versions last week. They will be both my first ATB coins and my first 5oz'ers and I expect I'll continue purchasing the designs I like in the future or the more famous parks like Rushmore later in the year. The problem is I won't get to see them for a while. I refuse to be shafted on the 20% VAT they charge on silver here in the UK so I've purchased these in Australia and had them sent to my folk's address back there. It also doesn't help that they don't even sell these in the UK in the first place! Many bullion dealers here don't seem to stock them at all. Hopefully they're worth the wait!
I got mines on Friday!! Great looking coin. I'm kind of hooked on the ATB 5 oz coins now!! I just ordered 2 more this morning. Perry's Victory & Glacier National. One of the interesting things is that I bought the coins through the APMEX Ebay store. I was only charged $5.20 for shipping. If I had bought it through their normal website it would have been $12.95. I'm not an Ebay seller so I don't understand why the big discrepancy in shipping for the same items. Anyone know?
The comments about the volcano are funny, but I like that one. I've never seen one of these 5 oz'ers before...but that Great Basin sure looks nice.
