If anyone is trying to gauge their delivery date verses their order date, mine shipped today and it was ordered very late on the first day, about 5pm. They should be starting on the day two orders now.
The 2012-W Eagle was a surprise sell out, at least in the individual option. Prior to the sell out I believe the premiums on those were similar to the 2013. Yes, the current set is no longer available, but it was not a "sell out". The final ordering date surprised nobody. The 2012-S set had about 1/3 of the reverse proofs graded a 70. This is the reverse situation of the current set that has about 2/3 graded a 70.
WOW! I ordered on the last day during the last hour, my shipping date just went from 9/17 to 8/9. Did the mint finally catch up? Did they get that many cancellations? Did they get a bunch of rejects from the big guys?
The order I placed early in the third day of the window was moved to 8/9 as well. I did order on in the final days of availability but have since cancelled. Strongly considering cancelling this one as well.
I cancelled 3 of the 5 I ordered, so I have 2 coming. If they're someone's rejects they'll be returned and I'll buy some certified ones.
You're welcome Rick. I just cancelled my order. Tired of waiting and decided to just purchase some bullion.
Watching HSN... 'mike' says that through several companies he deals with, they purchased 15,000 sets. Sorry for those still playing the wait game.
Ya know? I really feel for you guys. I, and a few others, who ordered on the first few minutes of the product offering on the day that the mint offered this set for sale, have been the only recipients thus far. Collectors have posted in this thread about their shipping dates moving up and down, forth and back, back and forth, and yet, still nothing in the mail box. Meanwhile, the deep pockets, heavy hitter, greedy dealers, have received their orders, sent them off to be graded, gotten them back, and have listed them for sale on various auction/dealer web sites. I've remained silent regarding this till now. I may be stating the obvious, but something is extremely wrong here. The collector.....the every day man about town fellow.....the one who loyally orders products from the mint on a regular basis, is being snubbed and neglected big time. How difficult would it be for the mint to fulfill a few meager orders from just regular folks? Not difficult in my estimation. Are you telling me that these fat cats got their orders in before the multitude of individual collectors? I say, in most cases ,not. This stinks big time. Hate mail to the mint on the way..............
Here is a draft that I fired off to the devils tonite......... Dear Sirs, I'm writing on behalf of the multitude of individual collectors who still, as of yet, have not received their orders for the West Point Silver Eagle set. Many placed their orders early on during the product offering but still haven't received delivery of the product. It seems to me that the Mint is catering to the moneyed interests of the hobby of coin collecting and fulfilling the orders of dealers/organizations that place large quantity orders. I don't hesitate to remind you that it is the 'little guy' who sustains your site. The 'every day' collector who only wants to add to his holdings something common and current. Yet you deny his ability to receive something in a timely fashion. Would it be so difficult to fulfill the orders of an minuscule few? It would seem that profit and big orders take precedent over the few proud collectors who just want to obtain an example of the series and not have to experience high markups in the after market. Shame on you for not taking care of the collector base in the primary phase. Kenneth Nyberg It'll probably ring on deaf ears........
I ordered very late on day one (like 8:29 PM EST) and have yet to receive my set. On the other hand, I've receive three other orders from the mint since I placed my order on 9 May for this set. I'm not too upset about it since I've been in India for the last month. I'm hoping to get the set prior to my return to the states in late August. The website is still showing a ship date of 19 July, which was changed from 9 August, which I'm hoping is the real ship date.
probably Ken??? They're as deaf as a mute on this issue. The problem as I see it is that they needed to ship these within a small time frame and shouldn't have delivered set #1 until they were able to fulfill all of the orders. This piece-meal approach smacks of impropriety even if it's all as they claim and perfectly legitimate, it looks like it might not be and that's almost as bad. In marketing, image and perception are as important as real and tangible. The Mint needs to learn this or there could be a tremendous backlash.
Ken, I agree with you 100% with your perception of the mint's dealings with the individual collector on their offerings. (See my post #884) I should have taken he next step of sending my concerns to them as well. I think the bigger dealers have a different fax number, or something, they put their orders through with. A few of us get lucky with getting through first thing on the regular listed number. Many of these dealers have exclusives on bullion to start with, and they have a totally different procedure to get inventory ordered from the mint than we do.
I don't see how it would have made a difference if the dealers get a special phone or fax number to order. They could have ordered 20,000 units each online in the first hour and you would have the same situation. If the regular joe collector wanted to get his set first, all he had to do was get on his/her computer and try try try to get the order through. If he couldn't get through, well that's just the luck of the draw. On the other hand, I could understand if they set a limit during the first day (e.g. 3 sets). But that encourages cheating. And I don't see why they should penalize someone who is making a living (and providing a living for others) selling coins. The govt can't always be looking out for the little people at the expense of others.
I'm one of the 'average Joes' you speak of. I was on my computer at the opening bell. My order went in and was accepted by the mint at 12:10 PM on opening day. Why, then, did I not get mine before the big boys had theirs graded and on sale, ready for shipping to their customers? Luck of the draw, my behind!
There were 138,500 sets ordered the first day. If you ordered at 12:10pm, there might have been 50,000 or more sets already ordered. There were 281,000 sets ordered in one month. They started shipping about 40 days ago. This means they have been able to ship less than 7,000 per day (maybe way way less). So, if there were 35,000 sets ordered ahead of you at 12:10pm, it is reasonable to expect that you would have to wait several days to a week or more longer than the first person to order. Keep in mind that the Mint has nothing to do with grading the coins. PCGS and NGC are within their rights to expedite the grading of select customers and to offer them special labels and any other perks they see fit. I believe the minting of these coins could be a little bit more complicated than your regular coins and proofs. That adds to the time. Furthermore, the coins are very high quality. It seems that most people are pleased with theirs. This could suggest the Mint is using strict quality control standards on these special sets (that adds to the average processing time).
Ordering period opened 5/9/13 at 12:00 EDT. The big guys had theirs shipped to them from the mint, then shipped them to graders, TPGs graded them and shipped them back to the big guys all in time for the big guys to be shipping them by May 20, 2013. Convince me the big guys were not given special treatment by the mint. You can't.
Who said they were shipped to and from a TPG? A PCGS or NGC grader does not need a special laboratory to grade a modern coin. It can be done in a hotel room.
I don't think there is much question that the big boys got preferential treatment for this set. The first 6 I ordered went in at 12:04 and the number was as low as any as I've seen. The next lowest order number was by green18 and was about 100 behind mine, and only a couple minutes later, as I recall was stated earlier in this thread. A second order was placed on 6/1/13. That order started off with a ship date of 9/30, was then moved up to 9/14 and finally is showing an expected ship date of 8/9. In the end, I feel bad for those that ordered the first few days and still don't have their sets, especially since I placed a second order on July 1, and I might get that order about the same time as theirs, placed 3 weeks earlier. That is very poor on a whole lot of fronts.....starting with dealers preselling, then delivering graded coins (which adds more time) before many of the people that placed an order on the first day even had a firm ship date, down to the 3 week period that I waited to place a second order, and people ordering the first few days will get their sets the same time I get my second order.
