It costs more to make 1/10 silver, but the premiums on those don't seem to be as much. $10 over spot for a 1/10 oz vs $2 for a 1/10 oz silver.
I'd rather collect older gold coins here is one my 2.5 Indians. The $5 indian is one of my favorites because its a bit bigger. This one is a slightly better grade but I've gotten a few that have been polished for the cost of melt. If you don't care about the looks you can get some pretty cheap and it's a part of history
I'd have to disagree with buying proof versions unless you want to stash them away for yourself. I've been at a coin show first hand and have seen people pass on countless graded or proof gold coins. Because of that experience I stray from them. Why pay he extra premium if nobody is going to pay you that premium.
