Collectible coins are not a good way to "invest".

Collectible coins with low mintages and high grades tend to carry collector premiums.

If you are "investing" then 1-ounce bullion coins are the way to go, they also offer the least premium over spot.

The problem with fraction bullion coins is that by the time you decide to buy them, it is already too late....they have already seen their growth. Best time to buy is when they first come out....if of course you have the money and then hold on to them for a few years. Here is something else to think about....those prices typically mean very little to a dealer. Most dealers that I know will buy for bullion. This leaves you with trying to sell them on the secondary market to a small audience. The only gold fractional pieces that I own are the buffalos and I got lucky with those and bought them when they first came out.

maybe the premiums are high, but at least you're still getting gold. I think it makes more sense than getting bulky silver.

that's about right. I got the '07 & '08 fractional Wunc from the mint. turned out o be a great buy. they do bring a good buck at coin auctions. I check from time to time. if I was a younger person I might think about adding them at todays prices, might pay off in 20 years as a collectable coin-might not. your right, the time to buy is when they come out and pick the right ones.

I won these 2 last week. Got them while gold is low but mostly bc it's toned gold and I love toned gold. Averaged $175 each for both.

Hey Chief! I'd be interested to see your pics when you get the coins. Looks like one of them may have a reddish patina developing. May look interesting on a modern gold coin, if so.
