I wasn't actually sure whether to post this in this section but since it is a bullion coin I went ahead and posted here.

Why are these coins much more expensive than others? I've been dying to get my hands on a 5oz but I can't justify the costs that are presented to me either online or in person.

I can't remember the prices, all I know is that my jaw dropped and I refused because I could easily buy the America the beautiful 5 ouncers for much less.

The libertad type 2 is a beautiful coin but why the high prices?

how much did you see them for? I may have a few sites that I can give you that have better prices based on how much your looking to buy.

I did look around for you, most are so expensive cause they are mostly sold out everywhere. I gave you links for 1 oz, I know its not what you asked for but they are priced well.

Onza's are less costly than ASE'e ???? Perhaps you just need to go to Ebay. :hail:

Thank you guys. I'll check those links out. I was able to buy two ATB's for $118 each and the 5 ounce Libertads were $180-220 etc definitely much higher than $118. I bought the ATB's during the sub $20 price last week.

The ATB's when I bought them were going for $4/ounce over spot.

I'm a huge fan of Libertads, gold and silver. With silver, I typically pay $1 or so less per ounce for Libertads than I do for ASEs. But if you're buying Libertads you need to understand their key dates. The Moneda de Mexico mintages fluctuated wildly over the past decades. For example, only 67,000 silver libertads were minted in 1998 while over 2 million were minted in 1992. This may explain the prices you were facing.
