What's your bullion end game?

I have a very clear goal regarding what I will do some day with my bullion. Buy a 35' sailboat and take a one-way sail from San Diego to Pisota, Mexico. Nope, I'm not joking and yes, it is a bit cliche. But its got me thinking, What goals do other folks have with each new piece of silver or gold? What's your bullion end-game?

I'm planning on saving mine for another 40 years or so until I can retire, then I'll unload it as I need cash. I'm not very optimistic about the future though, who knows what shape the world will be in 40 years from now... If any laws try to prevent me from doing so, I'll be going out with a bang, or several.

Don't know if I really have a goal. For me it's a long term savings/investment vehicle. I love buying and collecting stuff and historically it has been stuff that was useless or worthless so now, at least I can satisfy my hoarding/collecting addiction and yet the bullion I am collecting will hopefully not be worthless in the future. When retirement comes, I will start cashing it in along with my RRSP etc. Bullion is just another way to diversify my savings for later. However, if silver spikes up at some point I would honestly consider liquidating and buying again on a downturn.

I have been stacking since February and have accumulated quite a large stack, kind of surprised how fast it grew since I have had to upgrade my SDB three times already. After my last weeks purchase, I signed up on the waiting list at my bank for the largest size SDB they have. Since I did start out in February, you guys can imagine I probably chose the worst time to start as I think spot was around $31.xx and my first 10 Maples cost me $347.00 But since then my dollar cost average has been reduced quite a bit so I am happy. I have also been buying bits of gold since the price drops.

Regarding Generational Wealth, growing up I had a friend from the neighborhood who always had bus fare and enough change for lemonheads and gobstoppers at the Velvet Freeze. Dimes and quarters mostly. Well, you probably know where this is going. His folks were divorced and he'd been siphoning silver out of his Dad's stash and did so for many years without notice. When his Dad finally found out, Matt was turning sixteen. His Dad told him he had a car for him and that it was tied up in all that silver he'd stolen.

I'd like to accumulate 1,000lbs of silver, and 10lbs of gold (pure troy, not total weight). Simple goal, and I would like to think doable since I'm still in my 30's. Especially if silver keeps falling, it'll get me closer quicker.

Then, I'd like to give rolls of silver dimes, quarters, halves, 1oz rounds to my grandkids just because I could.

I was rummaging around in a drawer this weekend and came across a very nice OBW roll of 1949s Cents. In 30 years, I imagine my family rummaging around and finding that same roll of pennies. That will be the equivalent of finding an OBW roll of 1919s cents today. I'll go peacefully knowing that I'm bringing some joy and security into the lives of loved ones.

I will probably dump all my coins into Lake Geneva. Let people dive for them.

I don't keep things forever. When they're worth three times what I paid for them, I start selling bit by bit. So I now have only half what I used to have, but no regrets.

  14. I look at my Silver purchases as the world's longest game of Texas Hold'em and ASEs as the chips.

End Game: Well I am a missionary so I don't have a 401K or any kind of earthly retirement plan so when my wife and I are around 70 I'll probably sell whatever bullion and coins that we have been able to save to help us get by. I am buying just a little bit every time I can whether the price is high or low (though I prefer low:smile). As the price keeps dropping maybe I'll be able to switch from ounces of silver to grams of gold, we'll see!

I am 35 this year and only started stacking in February so I. Have another 30 years to go. I started to diversify my holdings. I don't play the market anymore so my savings for retirement is in PM or mutual funds. According to an app that my financial planner has, I need at least $1.7million in the bank when I hit 65.....talking about depressing. If pms go up then I will be in a good situation. I contribute 5 percent a month of my pre tax wage to mutual fund rrsp and between $500-$1000 in PM.
