I must say that I really like the hockey pucks from the mint. I have seen virtually no issues with any of the 15 pucks that I've bought to date. They must be all a minimum grade of MS69. I will not be a happy camper if they discontinue the series. I can only imagine that they are running out of silver with the huge demand on the bullion ASE's and proof ASE's. The NQ3 is still running over $500, which is nearly double the value of most of the other mint pucks. I'm not sure that I get it but I must say that Hawaii is a great place to visit. Why you would visit a volcano though, I have no idea. The view from the beach is just breathtaking!

To be fair, as this is the bullion investing section, the +P collector pucks are no more bullion than proof ASEs.

greed? its supply and demand. the buyer knows exactly what they are getting. no one is ripping anyone off (i consider ripping off to involve some sort of scam or deceit) if no one buys a coin at that price, they will lower it. the market determines prices coins sell at

I don't collect any of the US 'pucks', but I would buy the Hawaii coin - simply because I am a geologist, and I love the design... I am going to wait a bit, and hope the price settles down a bit, before pulling the trigger...

i do agree that the lowest mintage always commands a premium. they may make lower mintages in the future, and those will be worth something too. however, i have had collecting fads my whole life, and one thing i have always seen is that when things are sold in sets, like these, there is always the highly desired item such as the hawaii one. however, its the one that noone pays attention to that ends up being the real sleeper. if anyone knows magic cards, the black lotus is and always was a sick card...its the most VALUABLE one today. but something like ancestral recall wasnt considered to be that great. in todays game, it is unholy disgusting strong. same for the moxes. they were just part of the set and totally overlooked in the beginning. now they are all worth a whooole lot.

if anyone knows what i am talking about, fear not, youre not a nerd. WE are nerds.

If you can pick what will sell and what won't sell, you should be guying penny stocks.

    New low price: good.
New issues crammed together: good (fewer sold, more to "serious" buyers)
Estimate of new maximum mintages forthcoming: good.
Old appraisal of this series and its designs: still good.
    Conclusion: it's all good.

Depends on your perspective. For me and many collectors, this really puts a strain on our budgets. For the mint, another shot in the foot for their sales.

With the new lower prices, I think I will get all five of 2013's for my new son to be born this year. I am almost tempted to buy two of each of these three if everyone really thinks the mintages will be that low.

Yep, they should sell better at the new lower prices - but, count on the mint to screw it up by lowering the maximum mintages.

With so many issued quickly, it's easier to qualify for free premium shipping by getting 3 at once! Neat to see the 2013 ASE set for $139 plus $179 for an ATB will also qualify. Plus, I like the aspect that we may see early reports on sales for separate designs...I'm kinda "nosy" thataway, especially as I am not interested in the Rushmore design (!)

It will be VERY interesting to see how bullion and collector versions sell vis a vis their mintages...

I cracked up when I read this, as I agree with you 100%, Clint. What a butt ugly (or more appropriately, "nose ugly") piece of work (just my opinion, of course.)

I've read someone say it is the most significant one of the year, suggesting perhaps re-sale value. I hope tons of people with that mindset buy that one and leave some of the other beauties for the collectors.

You never know with the mint. Hawaii was the most popular 2012 issue, yet the mint made the fewest of these. What the %!@#@$%^&*O(P)&^%?

Not a big fan of the 2013s but I do like some of the 2014s coming next year.

Mintages ????? Who knows, they have decreased each year since 2010. I can't imagine they would be over 15,000, jmo.

Oh yeah. I would be sad if they cancel 2014.
