So the mint released the price for the 2 coin silver west point set. $150 for 2 ounces of silver. I am a sheep and yes I am going to order one, or 2 or 3. Is this a ridiculous price? I mean, I love the eagles so it really doesn't matter but I do feel a little raped by the price.....thoughts?
Collectors can't look at this as two bullion pieces of silver, but rather two coins with a numismatic value of $75 each or thereabouts. If they charged $150 for two American Eagle coins made from copper I would buy them because that's what I need to continue my set. If collectors don't like that then don't buy them. That means that there is just more for me!
If the silver market continues to drop, It will make less people interested in buying them, therefor low mintage is possible. Example the 2012 Burnished SE. I believe that was the same problem they had with all products last year, but these are the things that create demand down the road. You have to realize how much the mint paid for the blanks vs what the market is. I'm sure they paid much more than $28/oz for what they have in stock. Not to mention a new finish! I'm sure there will be a demand for the 2013 W for a long time to come.
Not sure if i'll get these from the mint or not... Last time on the SF 2 coin set the quality was HORRIBLE. I'll probably skip the mint and go right to a dealer to get some PF70's. We will see~ $.02 J
Sorry i am calling bull on this. If they are not protecting the cost of their bullion with hedges then shame on them. I think the net cost to the mint is market price if they have half a brain. Yes, i know we are talking about government, but still....
Would you pay the same price for a 2013 Morgan. If you answer no what would be the differents between the two? Would you pay 3 times what your car is worth for another just like it? It really isnt any wonder our goverment will charge these prices knowing that we its people will pay any asking price for an ounce of silver so long as it can buy the silver useing taxpayer dollars and pay the help with the same and make us the buyer feel like we are getting a deal. Not only are we getting raped but we are in lines begging for it.
I wouldn't point my finger so sharply at the U.S. Mint considering the prices New Zealand, Australia, and Canada slap on their "numismatic" products. If you want bullion alone, you can still get an ASE for a buck or two over spot. Nobody has to buy these sets and if nobody did, they might lower prices or just not sell them. The mint is just trying to maximize profits, which is their primary job when it comes to collectible coins.
yes ridiculous with silver down to $28 a fair price would be under $100 but there are too many people with fat wallets. why sell for $100 when you can sell for $150
how many sets are you planing to buy? i am sure you will make a killing as usual how bout gifting your best friend a set from the profits
Special silver eagle sets seem to appreciate well in value. I'm worried they might be starting to water down the product by doing a set of these every year now though.
I've recently become a fan of the ASE. This special set (reverse proof & enhanced design) looks really sharp! I plan to purchase this set... unless I hear lots of negative reviews about it beforehand.
