based off my math calculations, with gold at 1562, a 1/20 ounce coin should only cost about $78.10. plus tax, and shipping and handling, wich ranks it up to about $85.

Yup, 46 left, I bet they will go fast, will probably be sold out by tomorrow at the latest, maybe even tonight. So anyone interested should get one quick.

Gold was $350 when I was born in 1992. That little mexican coin would of been about $17 back then. You could buy a 1/4oz for $90. Now a 1/4oz is about $390.

A dollar in 1992 is worth $1.61 today.

Just goes to show you inflation in just 21 years time!

There's lots of California fractionals that sell around the $50-60 range. It's definitely an affordable gateway into gold even though it's the size of Marilyn Monroe's mole.

Do you know that these are actually gold? I've seen some on ebay but they always looked suspicious, is there actually mintage numbers for these? What years minted?

Here's the caveat, they were privately minted during the gold rush. With the demand, these companies accommodated with all various sizes of gold strikes. So with that said, most of these small firms didn't take a count of the mintages, only the usage of the gold in troy ounces. And yes, they're real. But be cautious, there are souvenirs that are obvious fakes that exist in the marketplace. Generally they'll be stamped as such.

I don't think you are going to get genuine California Fractionals at that price unless the are SEVERELY damaged.

Yeah, generally they are problematic, bent, cleaned, etc. The problem free examples easily hit the $100+ for the common assayers.

So what 1/10 ozers would you recommend starting with. I'm looking to get my feet wet in gold and was wondering where to start.

I'd go with american gold eagles. do some shopping around, some places charge a lot more than others. my local coin shop is actually competitive on proof eagles vs mail order sometimes.
goldmart usually isn't too bad though
