You have to think about the fact that people have traded silver and gold for goods for thousands of years though.
Yes, but he is not coin related, is he? This is a coin forum and the mods have understandably asked that discussions not be taken political. I do not see this as being that hard to understand, but since you are right back at it, perhaps you do.
Detecto...64 dimes are for sale at about spot and war nickels are too. But if the doomsday scenario plays out you may be better raising goats or whatever. I would guess that militias would come and take all your silver and if you were too prepped you may be seen as a threat, if you didn't join with them they would just put a bullet through your head. I just dont bother with all of those fantasy's but the paranoia can drive up silver values. The world not ending in 2012 is prolly why silver has dropped a bit....
As I have posted in other threads MANY times, the sole value of PMs is to preserve the purchasing power of your monetary assets. If FR notes are going down the tubes, as evidenced by rapidly-rising prices for food, gas, clothing, etc., then holding PMs instead of paper money MAY give you a big advantage as well as peace of mind. I'm gambling that it will. And as I have also posted repeatedly, with no wife or kids, if I make a mistake, it affects ONLY me; no one else is hurt by my mis-judgement. And by the way, I only stack silver dimes and quarters; no halves, no silver dollars, no ASEs, and certainly for darn sure, no rounds or bars. I wish I had a rifle, a revolver, and a shotgun, and plenty of ammo, but that's not feasible. I'm old and weak and highly vulnerable, but I DO expect to get through hard times financially. The one thing I can't stockpile is prescription drugs, so it's a tossup. The meds run out, and no National Guard or FEMA to resupply, I'm gone in ten days. All in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave...
It would be a lot cheaper if you took $20.00 or so dollars and invested it in a couple of files at the hardware store.
Not on this Coin board. Yes , we try to be fair, and many walk the line on posts, but most of this page ( deleted) was over the political line and then someone thought adding a photo of a coin makes it all OK ~ duh no! Get back on track or this thread is history, and whoever crosses the line will be taking a vacation.
I'd flop a Silver Eagle on the counter and tell 'em I need a can of beans, a half-dozen eggs and some bacon. I'm going to a coin show tomorrow.
No - I'm not kidding. You plop your can of beans down on the grocery counter; pull out your file and silver round and start filing until they say stop. Not much different than the process at a restaurant and the waiter ask if you want parmesan cheese on your salad.
What if they say "stop" the minute they see the file? Who gets to keep the filings? What if you sneeze like Woody Allen in Annie Hall? Simpler, faster, neater: dimes and quarters.
For the bigger more expensive items - such as a ribeye steak - you'll probably want to use a hack saw. Of course you'll still need the file to pay your sales tax.
