Engelhard Old Poured bars - How to tell?

Are there any Engelhard bars that are poured and sell for low premium? Or, has Engelhard stopped producing poured bars and any poured bars out there are "old pours"? Any information is appreciated. I have the opportunity to trade for these bars (1 XF or better raw Morgan per oz of the bars) and wondering if it is worth it.

Englehard has been out of business for years. The old loaf bars are highly sought after. Now the odd denominations bring good premiums. ie: 2,2.5,3 pz bars. I've never seen a 1 oz poured bar so I have no idea if they even exist.

They definitely carry a premium depending on the bars... check out APMEX, they usually have some for a good bit over spot~

The 10 oz bars are currently selling for $335 on APMEX.

The 10 ounce are more common, but the misc. like 2, 2.5 and 3 ounce are very popular.

So, its a collectible bit of PM?

Just trying to clarify. Morgans I understand premiums, they have always been popular with people. ASEs have a premium because it makes recognition of the purity and weight of silver much easier.

With old poured silver bars, you really would need to drill the bar to prove the silver was there, since silver is so easy to imitate its sg.

So these are collectibles then? Otherwise, I do not understand the premiums.

Yes, they are collectibles. I've seen some of these bars selling for 2 times spot.

I know its the pot calling the kettle black, but it just strikes me as funny industrial silver bars are a collectible. I have about half a mile of stainless steel pipe across the street, I wonder if I could get some slabbed. :)

Usually the items that are least expected to become collectibles are the ones that are worth a lot of money in the future. If anything says "collector's item" on the box, chances are that it won't even be worth the original price in the future. I've seen some wacky stuff on Pawn Stars that is now worth a ton of money, that I would have never ever thought to collect.

I agree. Its just a hunk of industrial metal I just never thought of as collectible. Its just me I guess.

This site has lots of good info on the various Engelhard bars - http://about.ag/Engelhard-10oz.htm#

The page above is for 10oz bars. Forms of Silver > Engelhard has links to the other sizes.

I grabbed a nice 10oz for $320 from my LCS the other day.

That equates to roughly $33 per Morgan. Sounds fair to me. Also, you are getting much more silver for your $.

eBay is useful for calc'ing premiums. The old loaf bars can carry a ~double premium, so buying one (in store/show) for an 11% premium is a fair deal.

(Bear in mind the vendors here would have to pay feeBay -13% or so, off their premium! In store, you'd negotiate lower...)

3/27/2013: a C-Series Eagle 10 TROY OUNCE ENGLEHARD BAR @ USD $330.27 was a 15% premium over Spot at that hour.
Vendors seeking $344. - 390. for similiar (incl a poured ingot) FAILED to realize those fantastical prices during the past last month.

2/22/2013: An old-poured 10 TROY OUNCE ENGLEHARD BAR @ USD ~$368. sold for a 27.7% premium over Spot.
2/19/2013: An old-poured 10 TROY OUNCE ENGLEHARD BAR @ USD ~$368. sold for a 27.4% premium over Spot.
    2/19/2013: A C-Series 'Tall E' 10 TROY OUNCE ENGLEHARD BAR @ USD ~$335. sold for a 16% premium over Spot.

DONT assume the more modern Engelhards are worth the higher rate!!!
