I bought a 1 oz bullion bar over a year ago and for some reason it just looks a little fishy to me. I just got a chance to weigh it and it weighs 1.12 oz. Is that normal when it says its 1 oz of pure .999 silver? There's also a lot of dark black parts around the edges of it. The milkish spot you see is because i put acid on the bullion. The acid kind of just fell apart and moved into little red balls and then the rest separated into a clear liquid??? Any help would be great. Thanks
After using acid to test it, I can only assume this has no collector value, so it's currently worth $28.50. Cut it in half and test the middle.
Yes i have 2 different scales and they both said 1.12 and i've tested other things where i knew what the weight is and it was spot on for both of them.
I think you are weighing it in avoirdupois weight instead of the correct troy weight. If you don't have a troy scale, weigh it in grams, then get back to us. It would weigh more than one ounce as there is .001 in some metal other than silver in the bar.
Yeah, "1.12" sounds like avd, not ozt. Better yet, use metric: 31.10348 g. = 1 ozt. I don't understand this price, and the back is different/ plain (older ingot?): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Morgan-999-Silver-Art-Bar-Metal-Arts-Co-A9964-/330865616029
I am mostly sure it will weigh properly for a troy ounce. Which acid did you use? Basically the bar appears to be toned and the acid just 'ate off the tarnish' like dipping a silver coin. I would dip the whole bar in diluted dip or diluted acid to make it look the same all over.
