Ive been thinking about this for a while, im looking for nice graded morgan, and I dont want to pay a fortune. Ive seen crazy prices for them morgans, and I was thinking what you guys can suggest to me as a nice grade, no lower than EF and worth it. I want to get one if its slightly graded, if possible, and my budget is 100 bucks. Its really low, but thats all my profits recentley. So any suggestions? Any good dates that are moderate and nice I should look too? Thanks anyways, and I repeat I want it to be graded. :smile
There are a lot of common-date Morgans that are graded MS63 or 64 by NGC & PCGS that cost less than $100. Chris
like? And which do you suggest are the best dates to invest in, such as lower mintage ones, still in my budget, oh yeah and it cant be cleaned at all.
Well, a quick search of eBay shows approximately 500 PCGS MS-63 Morgans between $50 and $100, so take your pick: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=morgan+dollar+pcgs&_dcat=39464&_udlo=49&LH_BIN=1&Grade=MS%252063&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udhi=99&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=morgan+dollar+pcgs+ms63&_sacat=0
i dont want to use ebay, scammers arent a friend of mine. Not saying all ebay users are scammers, but theres a lot who send fake morgans intentionally. especially morgans.
Educate yourself then so you can learn to judge from pictures what is a potential fake or scam. If it's slabbed, the chance is even slimmer of it being a fake. Most dealers sell on eBay as well, so eBay or in person, your best option is to just educate yourself or honestly, you shouldn't trust anyone for that matter.
Its not that im not educated, its just I once bought about 3 morgans on ebay that showed in the picture they were certified, but he didnt send those morgans, he sent some fake chinese non graded morgans and I never got my money back. I want to get some morgans from a local dealer.
Then you didn't file a SNAD with eBay. With fake coins, you don't even need to return them to get a full refund.
no I didnt. Mabye then thats a good idea, if I get a SNAD, but do them ebay morgans go cheap? Or atleast cheaper than from a inperson dealer? WTF just happened, I got a notification I recieved a like, but I only have 1 like, If i recieved one it would be 2. What?
If it's convenient to visit a local dealer, by all means do so. Seeing a coin in hand is always better than photos. Ask questions, but have some knowledge of the dates, mintages and price range of the particular coin you're interested in. Most dealers will bargain, so offering less than full price is an acceptable practice.
Im actually a very young numismatist (11 yrs old) so for some reason I get alot more discounts for being highly knowledgable(in some parts of US coins, mostly silver!!!!!) and young. I was just wondering, I have like 3 coin dealers 5 miles from my home. is ebay more convenient?
You are the only one that can answer that question for yourself. If you have 3 coin dealers in such close proximity and you get discounts then I'd probably try them first.
I agree with the above... I am also a very young numismatist, so I try to use local dealers, as I get good discounts. However, I seem to look online whenever I buy now, as my new local dealer costs alot more than online (sometimes 4 to 5 times as much!) I am also an Ancient Coin Collector (along with US and British), so my local dealer doesn't have alot that is of interest to me (I'm Canadian) I use certain cites recommended to me by the veterans on these forums, specifically V-Coins, to purchase. As Always, use the Local Coin Stores (LCS) first, then online. Windchild
what do you do if I need rolls of UNC pennys from 1951 or so and my local coin shop doesnt have them? Is that online? I think so.
I'd also think about putting a want ad in the wanted section here. I'm sure someone here has one you can buy.
I can't imagine none of 3 LCS wouldn't have some Morgans in MS63 for around $50. Shoot, I'd sell you some of my own if it's that bad where you live.
You could also search for coin clubs in your state. Have your parents take you to a club meeting and if they are like my local clubs, the YNs, when they bid on something, usually don't get bid against. There is always the exception to the rule, like some of the jerk dealers that are around my area.
Most common date Morgans in an average slab of MS63 will sell for under $100. However, these are not really investment coins. If you wan't Morgan coins for investment, save up a few extra dollars and go for either semi-key date or Morgans minted in the Carson City mint.
