001a.jpg I put mine in this, sorry should have dusted it off first. It's a little thick (the coin) but it works
    Diameter: 38 mm
    Average Thickness: 4.50 mm

  7. What is that holder and where can I get one? Thanks, TC

I've purchased from Coins Stamps Stuff in the past and have always been very happy with the transaction.

Regarding the mintage, for what it's worth, I've heard the first run was 8,500 and the maximum allowable is 500,000.

I like the look of the coin and even though the premium works out to be about $15.00 an ounce (about 50%), I still like the coin.

What keeps holding me back, though, is historically a lot of coins the RCM produces with the specimen finish over time end up looking like they were minted on a dairy farm (milk spots).

If I knew the coin was going to stay clean, I would be game, but knowing what I know about Canadian silver coins, I am hesitant to pay that much of a premium for them.

Seriously though, why an $8 face value? Seems a bit goofy - make it either $5 or $10 IMO...

  13. I have had mine for about a week or so and no milk spots. ;) I do not have a lot of Canadian silver but have been lucky that none of mine have spotted yet. All are in airtites in a SDB so maybe storage is key. I do worry about this one though as there is no airtite for it. I will try the holder suggested though and hope for the best. The coin is very cool...the thickness is unique for sure. I saw a post on another forum that the $8 denomination is for good luck, but not sure that is what the RCM was aiming for with that denomination. Maybe they just rounded $7.50 to $8. :smile TC
