both canadian and us and other country junk silver. but not all stores sell them for slightly underspot, only the big dealers
Even around here I sometimes pick up Canadian quarters and dimes at under the spot price. Canadian is strange because for the "junk" it's around 80% and in 1968 it went to 50% (for one year). I have even bought some 92 1/2% for below spot prices. People don't know what it is, so they will sell for less. I have decided to focus on Canadian for a while, since the other stuff is getting pricey. It's easy to figure it out too. A quarter is five bucks, a half is ten and a dime is only around 2 bucks. I even saw some Canadian 80% silver dollars for around $20 in a coin shop. That's at around melt. Please disregard this message if you live in Maine. I really don't know what I'm talking about. (and I don't want anyone else driving the prices up around here) Here's the easy way to figure out what Canadian silver is worth: http://www.coinflation.com/canada/
They actually changed the composition from 80% to 50% sometime mid 1967. 1967 dimes are either made of 50% or 80% silver. 1968 dimes are either 50% silver, or have no silver at all.
You realize, this means you have to start eating back bacon, maple syrup and become hockey-crazy while wearing a toque that has 'Ski-doo' written on it...
I've just become familiar with canadian silver the last few days (since it was mentioned in another thread) and I've been trying to find some on eBay. I am particularly interested in the 50% silver pieces such as the quarters. Having a hard time finding any, though.
I will never buy at a coin show. I bought only 2 onces when i started my collection at Mtl CS. Crazy prices !
yea I know what you mean, you just have to find the right dealers that mainly deal in bullion, not numismatics. the guy who bought 20 grand worth of junk payed around 80% of spot.
