That is number 1 most Government attorneys want to practice corporate lawyers or start up consulting gigs (can easily earn $300/hr for this).

The liberty dollar was quashed because certain spheres of influence don't like competition. This is why some people get prosecuted for crime and others don't.

I gather it's illegal to print your own "Dollars" to circulate as money. I'm not at all surprised someone would get arrested for that.

I was more surprised the Treasury/Secret Service went after BitCoin, an abstract monetary concept that makes no pretense to appear as "Dollars".

And also because it is against the law to make your own money.

No, it's not "against the law" to make & circulate an alternative currency, but the devil's in the details.
NotHaus was skirting and maybe overcrossing legal boundaries, if the Government is after him.

Most alt.money systems aren't harassed nor challenged by the Feds, but fail on their own.

It's not illegal to do this. What is illegal is to counterfeit United States currency.

My guess is Mr. von NotHaus is being watched very closely by the authorities. Or the DA can't decide what kind of sentencing to recommend. Either way, it's unheard of not to have a sentencing date, everyone gets a sentencing date. Anyone ever hear of anyone not receiving a sentencing date?

It's certainly illegal to counterfeit US currency outright. But what about the grey area, "looks like"? Or "used for"? I don't believe the dozens of other alternative currencies are similarly harassed - figure out WHY.

The exact verbiage "resemblance or similitude to any [current] coin or bar" might apply to the Gold coins. And applicable currency laws NotHaus has alllegedly violated are found here:

A broader crackdown might be anticipated, or not. idk

Regarding MF global we all know Jon Corzine isn't ever going to face justice and he's a crook. After all he was called the 'smartest guy' Vice president Biden knows on the 'economy'. Don't forget he was also praised by the president himself in 2009 as being instrumental to the 'national recovery plan' Obama implemented. I think the chances of me hitting the lottery jackpot twice in a row are better than Corzine or anyone else ever facing justice over financial crimes, after all these same guys that game the system own the system. But unfortunately for von Nothaus he wasn't a part of any privileged group or conversely he didn't steal enough money to get him there. The guy had a good idea but the Fed's labeled his Liberty dollars a 'ponzi scheme'. And now the latest news is that the government declared Silver and Gold Liberty Dollars as illegal contraband and warned they would confiscate them.

Hmm, I hadn't heard the Liberty Dollars were contraband. Seems that happened a year ago although the sources are a bit too 'truthy' for most. Of course if it is true it's not going to be announced over the main channels.

Anybody who watched Corzine's MFG testimony knows that the VP's judgement of him was ill-advised. He didn't know the answer to just about every question, and for all we know he might very well be telling the truth. Maybe he doesn't know a darn thing. Maybe it's his job not to know so he doesn't purge himself? He gets to retire handsomely while the next replacement steps into his shoes. Meanwhile whatever board put him there continues unhindered.

^If the intent and purpose is to commit fraud then it's illegal. If you are printing something that looks like American currency, but is a novelity item, like the joke $ bills I've seen at coin shows with Obama's or Sarah Palin's face on it, then it's OK.

IMO, they should be prosecuting those pseudo mints that advertize on late night infomercials for implying that you can get a $1800 Gold Buffalo coin from them for $9.95 + SH.

yea that's true they are a ripoff right now...but they are clad in 14 mg of pure 24kt gold so when Gold hits $22,103.21/ troy ounce...you will totally break even on the gold value...and then the base metal underneath will be free money :hail::hail::hail::hail::hail:
