Where on earth would you find someone with 30 billion dollars to take it off your hands at 85% of melt?

I think it's somewhere aroung 6 tons of gold ore needed to extract 1 troy ounce of gold, so maybe a 116 troy ounces total on board. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. All depends on the assay, though.

The company who owns the ore sing saying how much actual gold is onboard but I am guessing your figure is closer than the 700 tons.

The statement was a 6oz/ton assay , which would be considered rather high unless the ore had been concentrated at the mining area before loading to send for further refining. The estimate will grow as insurance claims start up. They could make a good result, if theft, just bagging the ore and selling in 20 lbs bags on Ebay.

Well 80 million dollars after processing. Poor crew is in Davey Jones Locker and the gold in a Chi-com vault. Sounds like a blood diamonds scenario.

Hmm, IMO, Putin should have never picked a fight with Pussy Riot. :)

After doing ACTUAL research, Polymetal's average deposit contains 2.7 g/t Au.
700 t*2.7 g/t=1890 g=63 oz. 63 oz. = ~$110,000. Considering this is ore, not pre-processed according to the article, it represents a rather small gold loss. The potential loss of crew and boat is likely much higher. Polymetal has estimated gold reserves of 110,000,000 oz, so I don't think they will be too hurt...

Well you skipped a step. No one would mine for 2.7g/ton, it is 2.7 ounces of gold/ton, so multiply your answer by a rounded 31.1.

It is a part of the world where things disappear easily. In fact quite many thousands of people, perhaps hundreds of thousands have literally dropped off the face of the earth there. Many are probably planted right near where that gold was mined in the Kolyma.

I stand corrected. There are some people who say they mine ore at 2.7g/ton and evidently move it by ship according to their site as you listed. My apology.
