Historically, they've been a very good investment, but for somebody that's new to this, I'd be very careful. There are lots of counterfiets in the market, and if my hunch is correct, they reaching a peak or approaching it right now for value.

  4. 2009 is a highly desirable year for the panda due to the design. It is also the last year of reasonable mintages (600K) before mintages jumped to 1.5M in 2010 and are now 3-6+M since that time. TC

I love 2009! I hate the ones with the 30th anniversary label on them, but I love the design of that particular year. I don't have a gold ounce from this year but hope to eventually find one, hopefully before gold spot reaches $2,000 an ounce.

Pandas have made a nice return for those who picked them up in the late 90s and 2000s because recently resellers have been purchasing them with a handsome premium so they can be sent back to the PRC. Some of the other coins, such as the fan lunar series are almost impossible to find now for the same reason.

i could not agree more and some are amazing, i have bought two that were double sealed fakes. everything was almost perfect, they even weighed exact. i think they were made out of nickel. but do research on them before you buy any. little things like designs on the reverse walkway, different years had different amounts of post next to the walkway, the reeded edge is slanted instead of straight after a certain year, the soft plastic they used to come in has a particular design around the border. lots of little things to look for
