I was wondering what reliable silver sites sell fractional silver bars and rounds? I checked apmex and provident but nothing. Thanks
http://www.providentmetals.com/bullion/silver/private-slv/fractional-999-silver-rounds-bars.html http://www.apmex.com/Category/1201/1_2_oz_Silver_Rounds.aspx The above are generic fractional rounds, these are very commonly found. There are others available, like the valcambi 100gram that is divisible into 100 1gram pieces or 10 10gram pieces. Any time you try to ball smaller than the usual weight the premium increases, so there is a cost in buying fractional .999. The least expensive way to buy fractional silver is 90% coinage.
May I ask why you are interested in such things? To each their own, but I've never seen the point, at least with silver. If one cannot afford to buy at least 1toz at a time, they probably shouldn't be buying anything. The premiums often charged for such things end up being nothing more than a bigger hill to climb when the time comes to sell, plus ASEs, Maples, etc are far more liquid. If you want bullion and (for whatever reason) cannot buy at least an ounce, just buy junk.
Well, I can buy one over an ounce at a time, but I want to put together a very inexpensive collection of preferably one gram silver bars. Good idea? Because otherwise I would be spending hundreds of dollars for the same, but smaller collection for 50 dollars
90% silver may be the best way if people want fractionals at the best price. The only problem is that it ain't pretty, it's dirty, etc.. I was at a CT shop yesterday offering silver eagles at $32 each in date rolls! Best way to buy it IMO.
i actually try to collect most of my pure silver in fractional bars/rounds. with the exception of the new fractional 1 gram bars they make now most of it is sold far above melt though. but if you want to not lose a lot of money, stay away from ebay buying them. 4 bucks for a 1 gram silver bar a dealer will pay you 75 cents for and you would have 120 dollars into that one oz of silver.
Hmmm http://coppercave.com/copper/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=202 http://coppercave.com/copper/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=367 and it appears that there are other 1gram items on there, and here is the Valcambi bar I spoke of. http://coppercave.com/copper/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=542
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw..._odkw=silver+international+monetary&_osacat=0 this is my rarest 1 gram bar. i bought two for 3 bucks. the new northwest mint fractional bars are usually sold with only a little premium. look up johnson matthey, pamp suisse, gold way, credit usa those are the bars i collect. but again dont buy them online otherwise you will msot likely lose money. most coin stores and flea markets guys sell it for what it is, silver.
Depends on what your goal is. If you just want fractional silver for bullion purposes, I'd go with the suggestions for general 90% junk silver coins. They are very abundant, although if they are very worn, you aren't exactly guaranteed the full silver value, as it's not all there (not a huge deal, but it is something to understand). The coins can be put into the plastic tube roll holders, and they stack very well in a box, SDB or safe, and by quick look you know exactly how many and of what type you have. You can find a lot of junk silver at very low over spot ratios especially if you buy in bulk, which is your best bet financially. If you want nice, pretty shiny silver things that stack well and are guaranteed fresh and complete with silver content, then go for the bars. You will absolutely pay more per ozt for the smaller bars than you would junk coin silver, so it's the least bang for the buck. Stay away from the 1 gram bars, they're pretty much useless aside from looking neat IMHO. Personally, when I started going through the collection to see what I had, I got rid of a lot of the junk silver coins and traded them in for new rounds and bars since I am a little OCD and liked the nice, neat, clean stackability of them (rounds in mint tubes and the 5oz and 10oz bars interlock for safe stacking). However now as I'm learning more, my opinion has changed and I've started to rebuild my junk silver collection since I've seen the value in them, as well as the much lower premiums associated with them.
