I have an oppourtunity to purchase Esienhower ! dollar coin from 1973 to 1979 for 1.25 a coin. When I looked it up on the silver melt calulator they are worth alot more than that in scrap. But the melt calculaor says years from 1971 thru 1976, does that mean that from 1976 thru 1979 arnt worth 90%? I have an opupoutunity to buy 500 coin for 600.00. Let me know asap as I have to call him, Thanks, Jim, sorry for the spelling
At a $1.25, I'm sure they're clad, with no melt value. If you get lucky, you can pick them up for face from your local bank. At least that's what I do, then turn around and sell them at the local flea market, three for five bucks. It still amazes me how many people have never seen an Ike, and are willing to pay over face for common circulated examples.
I would stay away from these type of lots because finding a gem Ike in circulation is VERY unlikely and since common circulated examples of Ike dollars do not carry a premium at all your basically gambling on finding a variety or error, which also is unlikely, I have bought all kinds of Ikes some in lots some in mint sets and i will tell you that finding Ikes that you can squeeze a premium out of is tough. So if your motive is to make money i urge you to move on to more profitable investments because yes you could potentially make a few bucks but considering your investment and time you could do better elsewhere. Believe me as an Ike collector it pains me to say it but they just do not have the following of other series such as wheat penny's.
