$156.00 a raw set is the lowest price recorded at e-bay for 2012s two coins american eagle silver dollar set. see price hit below $150.00 soon at e-bay. remember there are still two waves coming on september and october delivery. dealers buying should fall below $100.00 a set during those two months.

if you cancel the orders. the mint might just sell it to other dealers. the mintage will stay as it was.

Well, somebody else can have mine. I just cancelled my last day order from the mint. Perhaps I can pick one up in the 125 to 135 range on the bay shortly.:)

From what I have seen quality appears to be an issue with these sets which is why we are seeing a big split between high grade coins and raw sets which have already been looked over. Out of the 10 sets I ordered initially I sent 4 in but after pulling them out of the mint holders I think only 3 may grade 70. Many of the reverse proofs have slight breaks in the frosting and a few of them even have what I would call die polish swirls as several of the coins have them (i'll get pictures later).

I have 5 more on order and I am anxious to see how the quality pans out. Even if they are higher quality and more PF70's come out of them all of the First Strike 70's are going to keep pushing up in value... Wish I would have bought a few PCGS sets @ $249, congrats to everyone who did... those are pretty steady in the $400-$450~ range.

Only time will tell how these will do and it will be interesting to see what happens when the next round of orders goes out... We will be closing in on Christmas time and I'm sure there are still alot of people who are waiting to get theirs~

At PCGS, 6418 Proofs and 16,996 Reverse Proofs have been graded, so at this point there can be no more than 6418 PCGS SF sets. 10,578 Reverse Proofs are not in sets.
Of the Proofs, 35% have graded 69 and 64% have graded 70.
Of the Reverse Proofs, 45% have graded 69 and 52% have graded 70.
This info is from the most current PCGS population report.
Why are so many Proofs not going through the grading process?
How might these numbers effect prices?

I think some people are sending in just the RP because it is technically the only unique coin in this set, since the s-proof is being offered in the making history set also.

Do you mean I have to wait for the frenzy to be over on ebay then bid later in Sept or Oct? Was that your sugguestion?

What's the difference between the PCGS John Mercanti Black vs Red labels?

paper money guaranty (PMG) graded new paper currency as PMG64, PMG67 and PMG68 for $5.00 note MAH currency and coin set. it is far better than those grading companies graded the coin as 69 and perfect 70. there is no such thing as perfect or 70 in this world. think about that.

Sorry to be an ass but what/how does this have anything to do with the price watch of the 2012 Silver eagle set?

You are right. Wrong thread. I didn't realize that when I posted it in response to Anchor (post #571).

I feel these may be as challenging later as today. To find truly lovely examples will be a treasure hunt due to QC not only at the mint but also at the TPGs.
They have added a horrible variable by denigrating the value of 70s.
Compare to the ATB pucks in which you can get a 69 which is perfect
    to the naked eye.

Yes I agree that the condition of these coins will make the biggest difference. Out of the 10 sets I ordered only 4 are possibly worthy of grading 70 as many of the RP's have breaks in the frosting etc. which really sucks. Of the 4 I sent in I wouldn't be suprised to see them all tagged 69's the way i've seen PCGS orders coming back~ I still have 5 more sets on order and hope that they are of better quality...

That problem is multiplied when you consider many RPs like that would very well likely have been 70s if graded along with hundreds of others submitted by a vendor.

I bought this coin from ebay, is graded by NGC PF70, but I see this mark on the REVERSE TOP LEFT WING of the eagle. I know read that NGC has been lacking quality control this year, but is the coin really consider PF70 or did the seller do a bait-and-switch on me? The seller didn't offer a return on this coin for some odd reason. DOH.

Yeah that is definitely a poor example of a PF70, but I doubt there was a bait and switch. QC was lacking pretty badly on these coins. I may break mine out and take a few pictures of the problem coins today~
