What would you buy?

Let's just say you had to buy a 1/10th gold coin. Which 1/10th would you buy? I know there's tons of collectors who would never buy a 1/10th Gold Coin b/c of the premium involved and maybe this thread isn't for you. I just thought for the sake of discussion and education you could choose one. How about it, do you know of one that is not popular but looks really great? Do you know of one that has a very low mintage? Anyone?

    Lunar series.

  4. I would go with an AGE. It is highly recognizable, great design, and guaranteed purity, weight, etc. Within this series, I would go with one of the burnished W issues from 2006-2008. Of course, the 2008 W is the low mintage key but the other two years would also be a good buy. TC

I probably would go with some of the 1/10 oz gold lesser known world gold coins (Ex: Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Republic of Liberia, etc.). I like those types of world coins because it is something different to collect and it is not seen very often at the LCS or a coin shows. These usually have a higher premium than the GAE but if a person really looked at a coin show or elsewhere for a dealer that does not charge a collectors premium for them, then you will get a good deal on those especially if you can get them for as close to melt as possible.

AGE would be my first choice and lots of bullion buyers do buy them because they are easy to sell. I've been to country coin shows and been surprised to see farmers pull a tube of these out of their overalls.

if you are buying bullion as an alternative currency, then it's probably your best choice if you are in the USA.

I like the AGE's and I happen to have one, don't have a pic of it though. Here's a Singapore Monkey I picked up, I was actually looking for a Hong Kong Monkey but this will have to do for awhile. :thumb:

I would try to bump up to a 1/4 oz coin as the 1/10 is just too tiny.....

When you buy a 1/10 oz coin few sellers would let you do that. To answer the OP I like the look of the 1/10 oz gold Libertad.

1/10 ounce is soooo small that you can't really see the details so it really doesn't matter what you buy. Most folks that buy small can't afford the 1 ounce and could care less about the design, they just want to feel the rush of owning gold the size of a dime.

I know the gold pandas have a bad stigma due to the fact they are more readily counterfeited, but I recently picked up one that I really like. I also really like AGE's, Maple Leaf, and Libertads. I would have to say, though, just like the silver series, the different Britannia designs are my favorite.

For less money than you would spend on a generic bullion 1/10 coin, you could buy a numismatic gold coin like the French Rooster or Swiss 20 Franc coin. Or for less than $100 more you could buy a coin around 1/4 oz like the Sovereign. There is usually very little premium for these over government bullion, and I think the history and designs are better as well.

I think like Guy. If I really wanted a small gold, I would look at something like 2, 2.5, or 5 peso mexican gold. Older, and actually struck to be used. I simply like that fact a lot.

If I could get a lunar for the same price as a CML I would get the lunar, otherwise the CML. Both are 9999 pure which is the only kind of gold I buy except for pandas, and I wouldn't buy pandas except that they are sealed. I steer clear of AGE's because they don't have the purity marked nor are they sealed unless you buy a whole tube. Some people like less purity because it's more durable. Just a personal preference.

I would get either a lunar or panda gold coin.

If forced, I'd buy the AGE. But if allowed to pay up a little, I'd get one of the $10 gold commemoratives because I like the designs.

I collect silver because it is what I can afford currently. I want a AGE myself and almost bought a 1/10 about a month ago, but my LCS didn't have any that day so I bought more silver. I am kind of happy I didn't get a AGE that day because the 1/10 is too small and with the high premium I am going to save up a few bucks and just go with the 1/4 AGE so I can see the detail better and have a better coin overall.
