I want to start collecting the "bullion" version of the 5 oz ATB coins and i would buy raw but i have heard horror story's about coins being cherry picked so i want to buy them already graded. I don't really care about PL or DMPL as long as the coins are MS69.

I bought some at Apmex in their "sale" section for barely over spot about a year ago. They offered them in two packs-- I think mine were Chickasaw and Gettysburg-- and were MS69.

A word of warning: based on threads here and elsewhere, it appears that grading standards changed throughout 2010, getting tougher as time went by. Since the grade appears to be important to you, make sure that you are able to evaluate the coin before purchasing.

And it is probably would be a good idea to look at the 2011 coins in various grades to see how grading is done before purchasing the 2010 coins.

Why would you consider it a "horror story" for bullion coins to be cherry picked? There are a few bullion dealers that will sell bullion coins in Mint sealed tubes (or monster boxes), but they generally carry an extra premium over bullion that is not still sealed in it's original packaging.

The "sealed Mint tubes" thing is a scam, charging you more for what sould just be the norm. After the crap APMEX puled in 2010 if i had my way APMEX would be banned from buying from the mint.

Assuming that you are not referring to actual fraud when you mean scam, I'm not sure I understand the assertion. A dealer offers two options for bullion investors - Mint sealed tubes or dealer sealed tubes. The only difference is the dealer sealed tubes have been cherry picked for quality coins to be graded for numismatic value. If customers want Mint sealed tubes to gamble on finding quality coins that might grade with a numismatic premium, they pay a small premium for the option. Most straight bullion buyers likely don't care. If you can find Mint sealed tubes at another dealer for less, great. Free market in action. As long as the items are sold as described and you agree to the price, I don't see where the "scam" is.

    What crap happened in 2010?
