A new solidus of Theodosius I

    Hey all,
    I just recently purchased this coin, and while it hasn't arrived yet, I would like to post a picture and get everyone's opinion on it! I will upload my own pictures when the coin arrives.
    Weight: 4.47 g
    Diameter: 21 mm
    Ref.: RIC IX 5f and 8b.1; Depeyrot 1/3 (North Italian mint)

    Obverse: D N THEODOSIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust to right
    Reverse: VICTORIA AVGG, Gratian and Theodosius seated facing, holding globe between them; behind and between them, Victory is standing with outspread wings, palm below; COM

    I don't collect coins from this period, but I must say that the die engraving, especially on the reverse, is stunning.

    Panzerman's coin is also a choice example.

    Very handsome! I’ve only owned one solidus before (a Zeno), and it was holed.
