Maybe I need to clear up my intentions. Since he currently does the mail order programs he is paying way too much for what he is getting. I think the part that attracts him is the collectibility. He bought some Abraham Lincoln rounds and some other rounds that were of some collectible appeal. I think he just likes the facrt of having something to collect versus the normal silver round or bar. I figured if there was some type of image or something different on them he would find them more collectible that I could find somehwere else besides the mail order so he would switch away from the mail order program to get him more for his money and he would feel he is still collecting
Kudos To A Caring Grandson As a considerate grandson, who might possibly be a beneficiary of these "investments, it may behoove you to show him some of the "art bars" which are available in auctions. Maybe even offering to be an intermediary purchaser, where he might benefit from reduced cost, and you might benefit from increased feedback, or long term appreciation of your consideration.
The only thing I'm suggesting here is to do some real research to find out the value of what the grandfather is purchasing instead of continuing to make the assumption that something is wrong here without actually looking into it. His age is irrelevant. Maybe he just likes collecting them. Maybe he doesn't care if the current price is $10-20 more than melt value. I don't think you are as concerned with the welfare of the elderly as you are with getting your hands on their money. At least that's what is sounds like.
That's because you're an idiot, and if you said that to my face, I'd deck you! Okay, Doug, now you can delete this and send me a warning. The jerk deserved it! Chris
My only point in this entire thread is to suggest that it is preferable to establish the facts before drawing a conclusion. Neither one of us knows what grandpa is buying or how much he is paying. I still think SilverArt's suggestion is best. But feel free to swing away! Edit: In the interest of keeping the peace, I'll stop posting to this thread.
I know that he has bought some Abraham Lincoln rounds at about $45 a round. He bought a gram of gold coin that had something to do with Fort Knox for about $90. None of these coins state their actual mintage and what the coin is made of. For all he know the gram of gold is sterling plated or something. He also bought some half dollars that are "fair" condition for about $40. Just seems that he is paying way to much for what he is getting.
I was reading one message here and the member was writing about silver spot =$16. I was like WTH? Is the guy crazy?! Then I noticed the date - it was 2010
