looking to by my first maple.. found one for 35.. premium seems a little much but for a bullion coin 23 years old maybe not too bad?? do years factor on bullion coins or is an 89 the same as a 1999 or 2009.. in a 2x2 and looks like its never been touched..

  3. The 1989 has a mintage of 3,332,200, which is relatively high for an early year maple leaf. That price seems a little bit high to me. I think you can do better if you shop around. TC

I agree with TC. I picked up a few 1989's the other day from my local shop and they were at spot + $3, which was the same price as their 2012 maples.

keep looking. you can do a lot better at a couple online dealers. might have to buy a few to cover the shipping cost.

I buy much of this stuff from a local metals broker.
He doesn't do anything with coins, he just has the metals, and sells them all for spot +2%.
The good thing is that most of his metals are in the form of coins, so if he has anything I need,
I just buy it as metal, but buy it for the coin. He doesn't get in any key dates or anything, but
he does get many very nice coins. You are at the mercy of the inventory, but you are at that
same mercy with a coin shop, so it's not a big deal.

I completed my ASE collection with some really gorgeous coins sourced from him.
Just cents over spot, instead of dollars expected by a coin shop.
