Sorry ment UHR, Which Coin do you think is the best for long term investment (20 30 years)? Or is there another one that might be better (in the modern Bullion category)? My thinking is the 1995W has the least amount of money vested in Bullion so if gold and silver has a major drop in 20-30 year which is imposable to predict that would be the safest?
Hello and welcome to Cointalk~ Did you mean the UHR? 2009 Gold ? Otherwise I don't know what DHR is. AGE reverse proof is a wise choice, but it has already appreciated greatly, but I figure it is a definite winner. As far as the 1995 W, I assume you are talking about the Silver eagle from the 1995 proof set? That is a good one too but a bit overpriced IMHO. Unless you can score a clean one from a set, pay standard price for it, then have it graded as a PF70~ I don't know if this one will see as much of an appreciation as the gold. Plus if gold skyrockets, the gold coins will definitely go up in value faster as they are roughly priced at 2-3x melt, as where the Silver eagle is like 100x melt so it will never move with the price of PM's. That being said even if gold tanks if you have collectible gold it will likely hold it's value... take the 2009 UHR for example... been going for about $3K regardless of the price of gold over the last year. $.02 J
I definitely don't think you can go wrong with either one. The 2006 AGE reverse is nice, low mintage etc., but personally I missed out on that one from the mint and can't bring it in me to throw $3k at it. Plus there are not nearly as many people who are AGE collectors, just due to cost alone~ The 2009 UHR however I did get from the mint and bought it because of it's unique 1 year design and the overall beauty of the coin itself. It is a stunning thing to behold and worth quite a bit more then I paid for it which makes it even better. Even though the mintage is much higher the demand for the UHR IMHO is much higher, and always will be. Get the UHR, buy the best one you can afford... Good luck.
Yea was just going to start buying generic 1 once AGE, or buffalo's slowly and when ever I can to have incase and then one day give to my kids. but what scares me is the price of gold, who knows what the economy will be like in 20 30 years, and price could really go down, it bothers me that prices historically have only been this high for the past 5 to 7 years and the rest of the time stayed stagnant(other then in the 80’s and it took them like 20 plus years to recoup.) So I figure having gold as a collectable coin is the best (or silver). I’m like you I really love the UHR and I have never even seen one in person, just pictures and read about them. So that’s defiantly at the top of my list. But what might put the 06 reverse ahead of it for me is the Value. 06 reverse isn’t a bad value if I could save up the money (and all presents and stuff I would get for a while…lol) for the 3 coin set. It isn’t priced to bad comparing generic Proofs to melt prices it’s a decent value for the low mintage, But just like you said is this a set that will be heavily collected maybe, maybe not I guess? And with the ASE 95W, I like that because it’s a set that is heavily collected probably one of the most heavily collected sets ever. But like you said is the price already way to high? I’m going in circles with what I want to start collecting. I’m scared of the bullion a little but not against it. And not sure what direction I want to go in. I just know that I want to hold what I get long term and put some money into it sporadically long term. Down the line I’d like to get them all but thats a lot of money so that might be a long line so trying to figure what’s the best to start with. I think the like you the UHR is might be the best. Thanks!
Since your question is one about future numismatic value, I'd say the UHR. This coin was the deal of the decade and continues to rise in price. My recommendation is to buy an ungraded one that is WITH the original government box and materials.
Is that so i should get it graded later on and hope for one that will grade out high? Im wearly of that because im not an expert or anything near that with what will grade out good. so i would have to get very lucky and im usally not.
I would suggest going to a show or two and finding a few UHRs which are graded 69-70 and 70PL, get a good idea of what to look for, then make a raw purchase like Fatima suggested. I'll crack mine out in a bit and try to get a good picture or two as it has been a while since I did that anyway and do love to look at them One thing I have noticed is that higher grade coins will really pop, mega luster etc. as where some of the 69's and lower that I have seen will seem a bit hazy. not sure if that is due to die wear or what but I did notice it. Oh and for what it's worth, i'd buy 2 UHR's over a 2006 AGE set~ Although it is a great and collectible set, there is just not that many people who are trying to put together an AGE set~ If anything buy 1 UHR and the 06 Reverse proof AGE~
OK thanks forthe info, I was just worried that most of the Raw ones are Raw for a reason an didn’tget graded out because of that, and that I wouldn’t be able to tell. I wouldlove to do that if I can see a difference. Where do you recommend getting it ata Show or local Store or online?
Does a 70 First Strike or/and Proof Like matter that much when it comes to long term value vs a regular 70
First strike is a sales gimmick from the TPGS, PL is definitely something that'll help with value though. A figure or percent? No clue.
To be totally honest... none of the above, but if I had to choose, the UHR would be the only consideration as with some searching they can still he had with a relatively small premium (not an easy task though). With the other two you would be buying in when quite popular and values strong. While both would have rewarded great returns had they been purchased years ago, I believe both have pretty much maxed out whereas the UHR may still have some growth potential. If you are looking to go for numismatic value, there are much better coins that have much more potential IMO.
Thanks, Im just starting out and looking for a good collection/Investment. Now i just have to get the best UHR for the best price i guess.
