Point taken, but honestly, do you think any of the scenario's you mentioned are more likely to occurthann someone stealing your gold, losing it in a fire, flood, or other natural disaster?

You don't keep it all in the same place. On the other hand suppose you had a significant amount of stock in say something like Enron. At lot more people lost a lot more money on that one event than people have lost in losing physical gold in the last 70 years. More recently, they have yet to prosecute anyone for what happened at MF Global where people lost a great deal of money.

Of course if you are living in Europe, and your investments are denominated in Euros, and in say a Greece, Spanish, Italian etc finance institution, you are probably a bit worried at this point. Or you long ago converted your money into physical PMs and stored it elsewhere.

Good decission. Much of my investments are in things like this, not so that I can pretend I know how to farm to feed my family if the situation arose, but rather so my family and I could acyually enjoy our investments and not just be leary of them sitting in a bank or a safe doing nobody any good. A bus full of gold isn't worth the time and experiances we have at our different properties. Thats the best divedend one can receive.

I can think of a lot of reasons to have on hand some PM without Mad Max getting involved. Try loosing your wallet on a Friday night or worst yet getting mugged. You then have no access to cash. No debit card, no credit card, no ID to even cash a check with. It takes a week for cards to be reissued, a little less to get a new driver's license providing you have a birth certificate or social security card file away elsewhere. Having a little bullion, or a large bottle of change goes a long way in getting you through the week.

PS: But if your talking large amounts of PM, I'd go with the farmland in IA. :smile

Citibank overnights the new card to you. I had to go throught this twice in the past two years. Just saying....

I keep a shiny one in an airtite on me as combination good luck charm and disaster relief fund. "In case of life crisis - break plastic". I'm at the wrong bank. It was like Wednesday or Thursday before I got a replacement debit card. The coin can cover most auto repairs or a week in a hotel if needed, and I should be getting more out of it than I put in.
