I spoke with a number of dealers who specialize in bullion buys/sells at the Baltimore show. Provident Metals was there, apparently the top buyer on platinum and palladium at spot. Many dealer were offering Euro gold and Mexican pieces a little over spot. 90% silver was available around 22X face.
(SPOT PRICE IS 32.34 DURING THE WEEKEND OF THIS SHOW.) I bought a roll of 2012 silver eagles from a dealer i have some history with. She said her original asking price for everyone was $725.00 at the show, but to see what other deals were out there.. I met a friendly but clearly there to do business older chinese couple who had a surprising selection of modern bullion at good prices. they actually had probably the best price for 2012 silver panda's in the show of $48.00, i saw dealers asking up to $55.00 for those. And they said their price was $710.00 for a roll... Then i went back to my first dealer who matched the $710.00 price. ... Later the Chinese lady saw me and was like "where'd you get that?! so i told her a dealer i'm old friends with matched her price of $710..." and she was quick to reply "I would have done $700!" So i think that" is probably the best deal for silver eagles at the show.... I wonder what she would have said if i said i got them of for $700? However i think Provident on Friday said they'd sell me a roll of silver eagles for 706 or 708... but they weren't there today and sadly i was indecisive... and i really didn't mind giving a friendly dealer i have history with my business. I also picked up a 2012 koala for $40 Last year there were piles of silver art bars and rounds available for spot. This year the same stack was priced at 33.75
There were many opportunities on the bourse floor as well as traps like high grade moderns, high priced coins with subtle problems, etc.. I looked at a rare date coin that looked much better than it was; upon closer examination it was clear it was one of those deceptively nice coins with possible tooling that could as easily no-grade as grade at the level it was at. Usually with bullion you avoid the rare coin's potential traps. I was short-changed by a bullion dealer but was able to work it out the next day.
