I got a couple of $5 american gold eagle coins and noticed a difference with the type on the reverse. The font/type of the 2002 coin looks bigger (bolder) than the 2009. Look at 'In God We Trust' as an example. Click on picture for larger view. Has there been any changes to the design of the years? 2002 2009
never really looked but there is a difference when you click back and forth. dont have any 1/10s but i'm going to check some 1/2 and 1oz coins and see. now I gotta get off my butt and go dig some out.
I got this response on another forum -- >Your right there was definitely a change made in the hub. The question now becomes when was the hub changed? My bet would be in 2008 when the changed the hubs of the silver eagle. Some more study needs to be done to determine the changes, when they took place, and if there are any mules where a previous years old hub carried over and was paired with the new years new obv hub. (Is there a change in the obv hub as well?) Starting to make sense to me. This is consistent with my coins & some photos I found. The appearence of the date on the front may have changed as well (old = 'fat', new = 'thin')
checked some AGEs from '87, '93, '98 '06 '08 and '10. in the 1oz and 1/2oz they dont show that difference on the reverse but there is a big difference in miss liberty on the obverse i never noticed before! don't have every year (not that rich) so i don't know what year they changed. no camera can't post pics.
I'm usually wrong, but I think the only AGE with a roman date is....................................MCMXC
