Ordering rolls from the bank

I've decided that I want to check rolls of halves for silver, but the banks hardly ever have them anymore. I asked my bank if I could order halves and the teller said I can, but the minimum I can order is $500 dollars. My question is, does anyone order rolls from their bank, and if so, do they send only new coins or do you get varieties of old and new? I don't want to order them if I will only get newer coins.

    Thank You.

You get variety, its all luck of the draw, dont count on astronomical numbers either. You are doing good if you find 2 in a box

Ok. Thanks. I got "lucky" one day at the bank and they had 140 dollars worth, so I bought them and only found 1 clad (1965). It's still fun to check them both for silver and errors.

There's more to check for than just silver and errors, there's older high-grade clad to be found! I've gone through two boxes of halves in my life (I carried them both at the same time from the bank and they were quite heavy, not in a hurry to buy another) and while I didn't find any silver, I did find alot of mint BU 1983D coins and was able to make about two full rolls worth of them.

About 24 pounds per box of halves... I order 4 a week. Isn't much to be found in boxes these days, just the occasional lucky hit. Otherwise, pretty much skunks right through.
