I bought a 1oz Buffalo and its wrapped in this awful plastic from the mint. Would I be taking a risk for resale by removing it from this damn wrap and putting it into a air-tite? What do you guys do? With all the talk about knock offs I'd think I would be better off leaving it in the mylar but It doesn't play well with the others in my case with that darn wrapping. Any thoughts? The wrap looks like this.
I understand your problem, but I can't help but think unless you're going to have it slabbed/graded, you're better off leaving it in the packaging.
In this case, it's more valuable in the mint packaging. You hit the nail on the head is that it pretty much eliminates the discussion of the coin being counterfeit. Gold Pandas in the original mint plastic wrap carry a premium for this very reason.
I wouldn't worry about the authenticity if you have the documentation to go with them. That cello-pak offers absolutely no protection for the coins. I'd put them in AirTites if it were me. However, if you plan to submit any or all of them for grading, I'd leave them as is and submit them as soon as possible. (Note: NGC doesn't charge for removing coins from Mint packaging, but I don't know about PCGS.) Chris PS. I seriously doubt that the cello-pak would add any value to these coins.
I find that regardless of the item, prospective purchasers prefer OGP unless the item has been slabbed. Whatever OGP was, even ugly cellophane as in this case. ---- There are various theories about why that is. One person told me he got a seemingly OK coin in an airtite that later developed a fingerprint. Seems the party who transferred the coin did so bare-handed.
