no crystal ball needed only mintage the vast majority of the 100k mintage set were opened thus the three non unique coins can never be graded as being from the set if 75% were opened before grading can you say mintage like the 95-w keep your sets until the dust settles

I think you're right. He's kinda like the Grinch that stole Christmas.

I'm a student of common sense. This week and next week are not normal weeks given Christmas & New Years. At this point it's difficult to deliver xmas gifts in time via eBay, everyone is losing their minds with the rush of christmas activities, traveling, etc. Hence, number of auctions drop off.

January ebay sales will be a better indicator of what is going on. If it really matters that is. IMO, prices will continue to fall until the real collectors enter the market, and I'd say most of them know to hold off for a better prices. It's not as if this hasn't happened before.

I think we have leveled the playing field just about now. Prices won't fluctuate much from their current level. Any future increases will be from inflation, or large changes to the PM market, and affect the coin industry as a whole. Given such, I would say patience will buy a mint set at $575 and without it $625. I think the complete set in 70's wll be about $1025 10 $1150 based upon individual buyer and seller timing. So all the cheering and jeering will die down and eventually some other new release will take it's place. But it was something to watch as I am a non-owner at any price. So I think I am not prejudice either way. IMHO.

I don't see it, with all the sets on the market, nothing is level or settled. With 2011 set mintages at 40% of the 2006 set and double the number of keys, how could the 2011 set settle at a price only 50% higher than the 2006 set? If the 2011 set had only one key, it should sell for more than double the 2006 set.

Just as those who missed out on this set underestimated demand for it, they appear to be repeating their mistake by underestimating how large numbers of sets for sale depress prices, thus missing another opportunity to buy low.

Contrary to what some say, surprisingly the price is not plummeting on this set even with thousands for sale, the price has dipped a little.

I totally agree that those of us who didn't buy directly from the mint completely missed out, but at what point do you draw the line? A set from the mint sold for what 3? and it got to a point where it was up to 1550? Hmm.. reminds me of a scene from home alone. Imagine the set of ASE's = the luggage bag. The dad on the right was the guy who payed 1550. Still wonderful coins, in my opinion.

The highest sustained price on a single sealed box was a grand.

Just a SWAG, but with all the sets on the market, the price appears to be VERY depressed. If you can pick them up for $600 or $700, I think, you'll double your money within a year, when they dry up. I'm thinking about buying more at these prices.

My SWAG says $1,000 in a year is not unreasonable, but $1,200+ would need movement in spot, like $40.

What other type of things other than coins do you collect?

    Your SWAG is right on!
2011 has been a very significant year according to this article... http://www.ngccoin.com/news/ViewArticle.aspx?NewsletterNewsArticleID=1494

My 25th (Nov. 17, 2011) 5 sets will stay in the OGP until the 30th. Thinking I would not get them, I bought 2 sets on ebay for an average of $605. 1 is my daughter's christmas present and I may trade the other for maybe 10- 12 of the lowest common ASE proofs and start a proof set.

This would be a 400% increase in just 13-14 months after the issue price. I just don't see it happening.

I'm confused. Is the topic of this thread PRICE WATCH (something easily verifiable and interesting to track) or PRICE PROJECTION (a basic waste of time as no one can predict the future with certainty)?

" post any pricing or value info here" I started this with the idea of including any info on the value of the set. I guess that price projection could fit that

I understand your skepticism because you were only interested in the reverse proof. You were one of the few who had little interest in the 25th set. Nothing wrong with that, but it should be noted where you're coming from. It's good to have your opinion to balance our over expectations. We know the supply, we can only speculate the Nov/Dec 2012 demand.
