I may be the only person on the planet that cares but here goes: Does anyone know where to buy the Russia 2011 St. George the Victorious silver bullion coin? It is usually issued late in the year, but I have not heard anything about them or seen them even on eBay. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, TC
According to Bank of Russia website, there are no plans to release this coin in 2011: http://www.cbr.ru/bank-notes_coins/memorable_coins/plan.asp?Y=2011 As you can see, it is not listed in their yearly plan of commemorative and investment (bullion) coins. In 2010 (http://www.cbr.ru/bank-notes_coins/memorable_coins/plan.asp?Y=2010) it is clearly stated up there, so IMHO there will be no such coin in 2011. Seems like it will be released in 2012 though. No idea why they skipped it, if this is indeed what happened.
Just in case someone hasn't seen one before, here is an example from 2009. They are GORGEOUS bullion coins!
Interesting. It looks like they issued so many commemoratives in 2011, they decided not to produce the bullion coins. TC
Off topic but Fyi current Russian mint quality is horrendous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTj9PnyDo-M
T. C., This coin is not being minted this year as the Russian mint has utilized its facilities in producing a number of commemoratives this year. I have the 2009 and 2010 and they are both beautiful. The 2009 has a lower mintage than the 2010, but the 2010 is more difficult to find. Go figure. Hopefully, they will produce them again next year.
I appreciate the info but am very disappointed and also hope we will see them again in 2012. Seems like the opposite situation as we saw in the US in 2009 with only the bullion ASE produced and not the proof ASE. TC
