http://mintnewsblog.com/2011/12/lucretia-garfield-first-spouse-gold-coins/ Once the price tops a grand it sure gets hard to buy these. Any thoughts on the new spouse coin? I think it looks good.
Yep, I placed my order. I've been getting the UNC only. Slightly cheaper and usually lower mintage. I've committed myself to the series and unless something major happens this is my primary source of gold purchasing for awhile. I think it will be cool to have the entire set. I've also been keeping a spreadsheet that compares my purchase price with what it would cost to replace the entire set from APMEX. I know that isn't the same as what I would get for melt value or even what I would get if I had to sell. In any case I'm still up over $2,000. I think this will be a really nice series to have for the long term. I think 20 or 30 years down the road these will be worth much more than the melt value. And if I'm wrong then hopefully by then SPOT price will make up for my initial investment. In the meantime they sure are purdy to look at.
I agree with you claygump. I think interest will pick up greatly on this set as we move into the 20th century and more recognizable names come into play.
Next year we are going to get the following First Spouse Coins. First we get the suffragist Alice Paul since Chester Authur was a widower. Then Frances Cleveland #1 When she was hot  Then Caroline Harrison. I don't think that is the final design. Egads those plates are nasty. Then Mrs. Cleveland #2 After a few years. (no pic) but you can see the options here. I think having two versions of Cleveland might be of very little interest except to those looking to complete the set and therefore sales will probably be low.
haha. some of the spouse coins are OK, but many including this latest one are more like pretty ugly instead of pretty. So far I have the liberty series and 3 others.
