For the $125-225 extra you might get when you sell these sets, its not worth the extra cost. Plus your hoping for ONLY 20% to return as 70s... wow I got 17 of 20 back as 70s, total cost of grading was $389

Definitely interested to hear the results... Although at $4k for grading i'd be hoping for a lot more then 20% 70's!

What is the cost to NGC price for the same grading?
As $1,980 is the first strike and NGC throws that in, right?

NGC grading and "early release" slab is $17.00 per coin.

110 coins shipped, graded, returned registered mail to the midatlantic region would cost around $2,321.00

I got my coins from NGC last night and got my first good look at them. A word of warning to anyone getting 5 sets back from them with OGP. I used a scissor tip to open the tape (it only went through a fraction of an inch and this is how I open all my boxes), but when I got it open there was an OGP box directly under the center tape and the scissor tip had scratched it a bit on the sleeve. It isn't too bad but I consider myself to be gentle when opening boxes. I didn't want anyone to do serious damage to their OGP by accident if they get too excited opening these.

I looked at my coins and, though I am a bit disappointed in my grades compared to others from NGC (mine are closer to PCGS figures with 11 of 25 being 70), I think they graded them all correctly. All of my S mint coins came back 69 and I see a rub spot on all of them in the center of the obverse on the raised part of the skirt. I'm not sure if this is a production problem or a handling problem but it is there. On all of my 69's I see some mark and on my 67 there is a large contact spot at 2 o'clock on the obverse. All my 70's look perfect. If I were buying these I would be happy with the grades given.

There was a note that 2 of my coins had come out of their capsules, a reverse proof and an S mint (go figure). Both got either a 69 or a 70 since that was my lowest grade for those coins. Not sure what happened to the burnished coin that got the 67.

Prices are really dropping the last week since most got their grades back. Hopefully they recover soon, but unlikely until the supply dries up.

You got mixed results but seems to be ok... 11 of 25 not too bad.

Yeah, not too bad but also not 24 of 25 like Flyers, and most others I have heard coming from NGC. I am still happy though.

Yeah, I agree. Flyers' knocked it out of the park but no matter what any of our grades are, we're all still very fortunate. It's easy to forget how lucky we are just to have been one of the few who were able to get any of these sets at mint prices and even if all of them graded at MS/PF 65's they can be replaced into the OGP and sold for an easy double. I've sold one set of 70's and another set of 69/70's (4 x 69 and 1 x 70) that fully covers all the costs and put a few extra bucks in my pocket. Now I can just sit back and hope prices move higher in the next year or two and if not, that's fine, too. All in all, I'd say everyone who got in on this deal did GREAT and despite the grades not received, we all are very lucky!

I am very very very happy today for (1) receiving the graded 5 sets from 1st submission from NGC and (2) finally being able to see the online grades for another 5 sets from the 2nd submission (kind felt being 'paid off' after all that waiting for a week from quality control to finished). The result from the 2nd submission was slightly better than the 1st one. I am not sure if I should post them since some people weren't as lucky as I am .....

ps: please do not call me greedy for having 5 sets. I was on teaching duty in Long Island and wasn't sure if I'd had time to order the sets. So, I asked a very close friend of mine to order them from me. During lunch break, I got a chance to go online and tried to order and, after a very long break (got told off for being late), I was successful to order them. At the same, my friend at our home town was also able to order them for me.

Please share the grades you did receive - and I hope nobody would call you greedy (but some might). It's a free market and if you were able to use the so-called "friends and family plan" to get additional sets, so be it - everyone had the chance to do so, whether they did or not.

When I opened the box from 1st submission, NGC says that 3 capsules were OPEN - whatever that means! These were for bullion, burnished S and burnished W. But somehow I managed to get 21 MS/PF70 and 4 MS/PF69s. The 69s are for 1xbullion, 1xburnished S and 2xreverse proof.

Below is the result from my 2nd submission (22 70's and 3 69).

    2ndSET.png

    In total I have:
    bullion: 43 MS/PF70 and 7 MS/PF69 (86%), allowing me to make up 8 MS/PF70 sets.

Those are some great results! Everytime someone posts their NGC scores (and everytime someone posts PCGS scores), it makes me more convinced that I made the right decision by submitting to NGC. Wish me luck now - they aren't even logged in their system yet, but were received Saturday!

David, I am only collecting NGC slabbed coins. That was my main reason to go with NGC. But I think you just made a good decision for your set :) All the best with your submission!

Sorry for the dumb question, but I have an ANA NGC membership. Where do I tell them on the form I want the packaging back for $1 per set? The form they sent me does not list that option.

    Thanks for the help.

On the submission form you just need to clearly mark "RETURN MINT PACKAGING" - I put mine in all caps and highlighted it with a yellow hi-lighter - just like I used in college lol. I would think they can't miss it, and NGC is pretty good about following customer wishes.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

I called NGC today. The nice lady there said that they were still opening mail received last Tuesday. Should get to ours on Friday.
