Thanks, KD. That gives me hope. PCGS seems to have been tight with the 70's.

That is why they are worth more... Since my post from a few days ago in this thread has dissapeared i'll ask again in the very condensed version:

When you send your coins to a TPG and set a "minimum grade", do all coins which do not recieve the minimum show up in the population reports or not? My guess is no which creates a false sense of how well the grades will be. I understand PCGS has handed out many 69's and only a few 68's or less probably cause of the minimum grade thing...

I agree on the PCGS having more value, but individually. Getting 4 sets of 70's from NGC is still worth more than 1 set of 70's from PCGS, though.

I wouldn't think that ungraded/unslabbed coins go into any pop report.

Honestly (and I've commented on this before) I'm not sure if PCGS is "tight" or inconsistent with the grades. What I do know is that I used to submit to PCGS and broken out PCGS 69s on at least a dozen occasions gotten NGC 70s in return. That, coupled with the very poor customer service at PCGS and I submit exclusively to NGC since 2009.

I'll take a NGC 70 over a PCGS 69 anyday - and I think if you take a box of 5 sets, where you will likely get 2 PCGS 70 sets if you are lucky versus probably 4 full sets of NGC 70s, and I think the price differential of PCGS over NGC is not enough to make up for the fact that you get very few PCGS sets in a box.

As always, just my two cents. But I think the facts back up my opinion/preference.

Its all opinion on PCGS OR NGC, I dont believe they are worth more. These sets and other high value coins dont get a higher price because of PCGS.

If anything PCGS just charges more for grading.

NGC has been closed all weekend (including Friday) - I would guess you have your grades this afternoon... If so, please share with the rest of us! Good luck!

Sorry if this has been gone over before but is the "early release" designation worth anything for these 25th anniversary sets? It costs more to get them graded that way but in this case where all are early releases anyway what difference does it make?

Guessing your sending them to PCGS, NGC is automatically giving all sets the "early release" designation.

Some say to get it and some not to...

Actually, it comes free if you submit your set under NGC Modern Special tier as long as NGC receive your package by Dec 8th. But honestly, this label doesn't really matter to me ... as long as they are in NGC slabs :hail:

Guys, I just wanted to caution everyone who may be thinking of submitting these sets to PCGS. There were pop reports that went out showing a 60-65% MS/PR 70 from their site and muliple posters (including myself) that are showing a much MUCH lower % of 70's on these coins. Some seem to think that PCGS is setting up their bulk submitters (dealers) with the best sets and leaving the individual collectors hanging out to dry. This was brought up on the PCGS forum and has yet to be commented on by PCGS and their entire thread dedicated to the anniversary set was zapped when one poster questioned this.

Needless to say, I will be closing my account with PCGS and will never do business with them. I was a bit sceptical when I first saw my grades, but it appears I'm not alone now.

    DW-coins Slave to coins...

That's something I've been worried about ever since I heard that the coins must be shipped sight unseen. It then becomes very tempting to simply mix all the 25th ASE's together in one big pile and then pick out coins to suit various submitters. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing PCGS or NGC of doing anything illegal, I'm just thinking that the temptation of easy money may be very difficult to avoid. Also, I saw a photo on PCGS's facebook site that showed hundreds of OGP's just sitting there now that PCGS is not allowing people to phone in a request to get their boxes back. What do you suppose will happen to those boxes? Inquiring minds want to know...

Have pity on me. NGC still hasn't updated my submission .... still Quality control since Wednesday morning .... Either they are all 70 or they are all craps ... that they have to regrade them ... LOL

FWIW, at the Baltimore Whitman show I was talking with NGC rep (who seemed to be frustrated about something) about ASE 25th anniversary submission when he told me packages received by the NGC offices are opened then assigned for grading, then tracked, in an environment where everything is done under constant video surveillance. I asked him why they did that he replied it was done that way to assure the integrity of the orders.

I think any grader would be nuts to co mingle orders. The grading industry is based on trust, any inkling of shady dealing would probably sink the company.

Swapping coins between orders would be very dangerous and I would doubt they would attempt something like this. But reducing the number of 70's from anything that is not a bulk dealer submission and labeling them 69's would leave no trail of evidence. This would then increase the premium of the 70's the dealers are selling.

This is definitely dissapointing to hear although to be honest I have always been sceptical of TPG's. I certainly was hoping that I would get at least 2 sets of 70's from PCGS and now I may just let my $50 membership rot, or at the very least I'm going to wait to submit until the mad rush is over to ensure that my coins are not accidently mixed into someone elses order...

I am certainly worried about the TPG's playing favorites to dealers who submit a few hundred sets as I have heard there were "guarantees" for a certain number of 70's although that could be BS. I would love to get some real solid numbers on how many submissions etc. NGC/PCGS are getting and see what the actual odds are of getting highly graded coins is. I used to have a subscription to NGC and wasn't displeased with them but wanted to give PCGS a go ~ Now I don't know what I want to do! Sucks but I guess i'll just keep my box closed for now :/ hrmpf.

The whole TPG thing comes across as a trust-me con. I doubt we’ll ever get a crystal clear picture of how these dark-room operations really work...ignorance is bliss.
