Mine got there Monday, but were only received on Wed. I guess they are getting slammed. They are still in "Received" status. I am not expecting them to hold true to their 12 day turnaround with these, but it would be nice. I am concerned about what the prices will do when the flood of graded sets hit ebay. I thought about putting up a presale for them, but it's not really in my nature since even 69s are not a sure thing.
I wouldn't worry about prices peaking anytime soon. The 20th anniversary set didn't reach its zenith until around 1.5 yrs after the mint sale at which point the set was averaging 6x its original price. As for the 25th anniversary sets I think many people are waiting to get in after prices pull back, however, I don't think they will. In fact, I think they'll continue to climb and those on the sidelines will conclude they'd better get them now before they go even higher. This is when I predict they'll hit their highest price point, but it will take a little time. At least this is how I see it playing out.
For me, I'm hoping to get a full set of 70s, which I will keep. After that, I'll assemble full sets of 69s to sell. If I get lower coins, I'll probably break them out of the holders. If I have remaining mixed 70s, I may try to sell them individually or if the missing coins are the 3 non-rares, I may try and purchase them. If I have 2 of the S or reverse proof in 70, maybe I'll try and find someone that has the other coin in 70 that they want to trade. Those two coins when raw are pretty close in value, so I'd imagine that it would be a fair straight trade. But anything at this point is mere speculation until you get your coins in hand. You may not even get any 70s, and it will be a moot point.
I've been checking but so far NGC has not posted any grades for the 25th anniv set. I would expect to see some 68's and maybe even as low as 66's given that no one was able to cherrypick their submissions. In a very real way, this will be a true and unbiased evaluation of how well the mint is producing coins. I keep reading published articles on how much cleaner the mint's products have become based on the higher population of MS/PF 70's, but is this a true reflection of the mint or a reflection of collector's ability to judge grades? I think we will settle this argument once and for all when the numbers start rolling in!
It's not copying and pasting easily. Note that I think these are just regular 2011 production variants, but gives you an idea of the breakdown in grades. 2011 W EAGLE Sub PF-69 roughly 60 coins PF-69 7650 PF-70 18631 2011 EAGLE Sub MS-69 roughly 90 coins MS-69 691200 MS-70 50450 2011(S) EAGLE MS-69 203735 MS-70 33825 2011 W EAGLE Sub MS-69 13 MS-69 8595 MS-70 11075
I guess it's a good thing the regular eagle in this set is a special strike, as this report shows only 7% of that coin graded as MS-70s. Would have been somewhat ironic if the "key" graded coin is the regular bullion strike.
Interesting, for sure, but these are not numbers from the 25th anniversary set but instead are from earlier submissions. I'm thinking the 25th sets will be quite different from the general population of non-25th sets.
Looks like rickmp's table is for the regular issues and not the 25th Anniv Sets - according to their website, PCGS has assigned special numbers for the sets, all in the range 509xxx - I doubt they've started publishing population numbers yet, but I don't have access to PCGS data. I can state that NGC hasn't posted anything yet, but I did speak with them and they are seeing good numbers for sets submitted, even for the bullion coins with about 2 out of 3 coins getting a 70 from NGC. Good luck everyone, be sure to post results when you get them!
I did post those tables, then discovered that they weren't for the 25th sets, so i took them down. My apologies if anyone was confused by them.
Well... they're off! Shipped my sets to NGC via Registered Mail today - it'll probably take 7-10 days to get from CA to FL, and I'll be sitting on pins and needles until they are officially in the system, but it's out of my hands now. I had to get them out of the house or the temptation to open them this weekend might just have won out!
Well my coins have been at NGC since Friday Nov 11. I see today they are in Quality Control so hopefully I will have the grades on Monday. i will post the results when I get them.
Well now I kinda wish I had held back until I start seeing grades (I thought it would be quite a bit longer) but at the same time I don't think I would have done anything different - maybe taken them to Vegas for the PCGS show but I am sure I would have been disappointed with the PCGS grades anyway, even if I could have opened the box in their presence and tried to cherry pick the submissions. What's done is done - wish me luck!
As I was going through EBAY's pages, checking on the sales and prices, I noticed that (as per what is been sold) "grades" are looking good. There were 88 sets PF/MS70, 25 sets PF/MS69, and no sets P/MS 68. Also I only found 3 individual coins (from a set) graded as 68... I forwarded my sets on the 15th but the have not arrived NGC. Hoping for the best!!!
Well i would think people with the 69s and lower might be thinking twice about selling it graded while the 70s would be in a hurry to get their money.
I intend to sell off my 69s and keep my 70s - I think the 70s will be worth a fair amount in the future, and I like having the perfect sets myself. Even if there are a higher number of 70s, look at where the UHRs are selling now, two years after going off sale - I don't see the market staying low, even if 2/3 are graded 70s...
I have decided to send my 2 unopened sets to NGC tommorow being that 69s are selling for $1.1k and unopened or opened sets from 750 to 850 so its worth a shot of getting a 70s as those are going for 2.2k
