Unique Bullion Coin in 25th Anniversary Set?

Has anyone noticed the bullion coin in 25th Anniversary Set is different than other bullion coins? Not that I put too much weight in what the Coin Vault says, but they claim the bullion coin was produced just for the set and is different than others. I looked through my sets quickly and remember thinking, it’s hard if not impossible to tell the difference between the bullion coin and the uncirculateds. Could the bullion coin in this set have a burnished finish?

I was thinking the same thing when I saw pictures posted by others but have not opened mine up yet to look. PCGS apparently contacted the mint about it and they said they could not verify where they came from so it would seem there is nothing special to em... but you never know!

Yeah, but another post ehre claims the mint HAS stated all the bullion coins come from SF mint, but the cert simply does not say that.

    Could this be a factor...?

Typically, the United States Mint only sells its bullion coins to its network of Authorized Purchasers, but the Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set was an exception.

    Yes, there is a difference

Absolutely - see the photos below. The coin on the left is from the 25th Anniversary set (burnished), and the one on the right is from a common bullion roll of 2011 ASE's.

That's right. I believe it was reported in Coin World that the mint stated they were all produced in SF, but that decision was made after the COA's were produced.

WOW! So, did we get a bonus 3rd unique coin in this set? Or, is it simply an early bullion die state? Would be nice if the Mint confirmed it.

If this is correct, you'd be way ahead of the game to buy up all those three coin 25th Anniversary left over’s that are being sold on eBay right now for near bullion prices...the one's left over after the S mint and reverse proof are broken out and sold separately.

That IS an amazing difference. Would this simply be considered a variety or is this a different coin with a different finish entirely? Hum?

Yes, I see the difference too. I can't wait to get my sets back to see how they look in hand.

I opened mine and thought the same thing! They are very different. This I hope could be a very big surprise and make this set even better.

Yes, I see the difference too. One's in a coin case and the other isn't. What kind of side by side is that? Light need to be able to reflect the exact same way for it to be a true side by side.

I'm not opening my capsules :). We really need a report from the mint and/or the TPG's on this apparent variation.

It looks like the same finish as on the 2010 ASE.

Exactly as I was thinking. At the beginning of this year, when the 2011 eagles first came out, a lot of people mentioned that the 2011s were the shiniest eagles they've seen (compared to 2010 and earlier). I think the silver eagles just have a variation in the frost in the long run.

Well it's clearly a different finish. Was the 2010 a different finish? Is the 2011 in the set simply an early die state? Anyone able to put together a side by side that includes a 2010?

Could be, but then, if all 2011 bullions have a brilliant finish, except those in the set, that could be significant. If the set dies were actually give a different treatment, it's a variety that's easily identifiable.

Boy oh boy that would be fantastic a variety!!

Well, 2nd best, if you don't want to open the capsule, is if the pics were actually taken with the coins side by side with the same light on both. They appear to be, were they? If so, I can live with the capsule.
