Goo Gone will safely remove the goo without lifting the ink or finish. You can find it at most housewares stores; it's orange and smells like an orange (get the bottled liquid, not the gel). About 4.95, but good to have on hand. Put a drop on the goo, rub lightly with bare finger, then wipe off excess with a soft cloth or tissue (Puffs). I used it on a delicate surfaces all the time. Blowing off the fibers is probably the safest thing. Turkey baster, vacuum on reverse, hair dryer, etc.
I have tried the gel Goo Gone on something similar to a coin box and it ruined the finish. Is the liquid Goo Gone different (safe)?
The gel doesn't work as well, requires more rubbing, and could therefore damage a surface. I don't like the gel. Just tested the liquid on a Mint Yosemite sleeve, and it was fine. It left a slight oil ring, but these rings disappear after a two-minute HOT blow-dryer treatment followed by a light buffing with a handkerchief (most people don't know about the blow-dryer trick to evaporate oil stains/rings). GooGone doesn't ruin surfaces unless you rub too long and with too much effort. The keys are: Rub lightly, quickly, use sparingly, wipe clean, blow dry (if oil stain appears), buff with cloth. Not affiliated in any way with the product.
I think that the video did a world of good for those that wanted one, but weren't able to get it. It was almost as good as getting one IMHO. Thanks yoyo! Nice pics as well!
