Since this is where all the 25th ASE action is, how do you judge these to other coins be they modern, silver, gold or what ever. What in your collection do you consider to be of equal value?
In terms of metal value, it's worth about the same as a 1/10 ounce AGE that I have sitting in a cardboard box. In terms of numismatic value (to me) I equate it to my set of 2011 silver Amero coins from the Moonlight Mint. Edge to the Amero.
I've never seen those before, and 2011 is sold out! You may have a good investment in hand. If I get my 25th ASEs they will be my most valuable silver.
Nothing of numismatic value. Everything is fantasy (at best), bordering on counterfiet. The Amero crap is total Sci-Fi that is never going to happen.
Don't believe the false information related to Moonlight Mint's coins that they're 'bordering on counterfeits'. Some folks are just insolent with a grudge for some reason against the reality of the situation. Read for yourself comments by the maker of the coins himself, Daniel Carr describing the differences between fraudulent pieces and fantasy coins. HERE
And you seriously thought that was the purpose of those coins? There was a serious effort to create an Amero? In regards to numismatic value, he sells out everything he mints and they aren't selling for spot metal prices.
I now see the controversary, creating a piece of art from a Morgan. Nice and nothing wrong with it, but I'm not an art collector. Now how about more comparisons to the 25th ASE. I gotta wonder how these are valued in individual collections. Aside from displaying with other ASEs, what other coin would merit equal admiration?
Wow, very nice coin. I have relatives in the great white north and so I was able to get a 4 piece 1975-76 olympic set. At the time you could acquire them at a Toronto Bank. So far an art and foreign coin comparison, good start. What I would like to establish is a relative value for the limited ASEs. From the "In the eyes of the beholder" could emerge a sense or clue to the value of these ASEs or at least their rank in popularity. In other terms how dear are these coins to the average collector.
And some people insist on diluting my hobby by advertising for an individual on a public forum where that is supposedly discouraged.
Some very successful people subscribe to, and live by, PT Barnum's assesment that "There's a sucker born every minute." Of course misery loves company.
Several off topic posts presents a flame war situation. Next one gets reported. Go hijack another thread.
In terms of collectibility I like the wild life series. I think bullion collectors jump on them but art, wildlife and other coin enthusiasts add to the interest....and there is more variety. The maple leaf and most ASE's are purely bullion.
While it is widely believed to be a statement attributed to Barnum, he wasn't who originally spoke that quote. Look it up! Know your history and get to know the facts of your hobby better. It's just as much your right to spout off opinions on baseless facts just as much as it is your right to continue showing your ignorance and being a jerk about this... But don't expect not to get called on it when you are flat wrong in your facts and attempting to misguide and defame people with your rhetoric.
Variety the spice of life. Yes I can see the excitement in that. Revisiting the old when you acquire a new one keeps the collection vibrant. Unlike a "Trophy Wife" you get the whole harem. Someone is going to find coal in their stocking. I'm signing off for the night.
OK guys, behave. Get back on topic please. If this keeps up, I will lock the thread and issue infractions to everyone involved.
